Unusual Morning Cuppa - FM

Fun Monday Theme :

What do you drink in the morning, coffee, milk, tea, or something else?
In what do you drink ?A cup or a mug or a bowl ? Please show us a picture !

Gattina is hosting. Come join us. Leave a link if you are playing so we can visit you.

My favourite morning cuppa, milk tea with a toasted kaya (coconut jam) bun.

I used to have a cup of milk tea to start the day with ......

Milo Dinosaur!!

Once in a while I would have a mug of hot Milo with two extra scoops of Milo powder on top.
Ahhhhh.... Heaven!

Chinese herbal medicine in convenient packs all the way from China

Now ....... for the past two months, I have to drink a bowl of bitter, disgusting Chinese herbal concoction every morning so as to reduce the swelling and improve blood circulation of my injured ankle. -_-

Not the usual morning cuppa for a lady. :P

Gifts of Love - FM

I'm the host for Fun Monday this week and this is the theme  :

When it comes to gift-giving and receiving, men and women differ on many things.
Are men easier to please?
Show us the best and worst gift(s) you have ever received from your spouse/partner/lover?

Women want presents they wouldn't buy for themselves. I certainly don't expect this!

My husband gave me this singing cushion on my 40th birthday. I was speechless, I could not believe my eyes when I unwrapped it .... but I listened to his explanation :

A couple of days before my birthday, two young students entered his office with this cushion and said they were selling it to raise funds for an orphanage. It was only S$10 (US$4.30), my husband bought it without any hesitation. He decided to give it to me instead of a piece of jewellery.

My girlfriends were totally flabbergasted when they heard this. "He could have given it to your little niece! It's so cheap!"

How could I get angry? The gift is not to my liking but the giver has a noble heart.

My husband always remembers the chocolate cake and red roses on my birthday and our wedding anniversary. There is no surprises ..... I don't mind. It's the thought that counts.

err.... how do you complete it!?

My good friend oceanskies gave me this 'Brain Cube' when she visited me after my surgery. She is such a sweetheart, regularly checking on me and remembering my birthday.

Most women and men like to receive gifts that are useful, meaningful, sentimental and remind them of the gift-giver.

Do you agree?

Let's Come Clean! - FM

Fun Monday theme (12th April 2010) :

Laundry Room from the 1940s - my grandma's time

Everyone has laundry. Where do you do yours? Show us your Laundry room, or where you go to get those clothes clean!

This week's host is Janice from the Prytz family.

my grandma used a charcoal iron to press

I remember seeing my grandmother using a charcoal iron when I was a young kid. The hinged lid and the air holes allowed the charcoal to keep smouldering. On the side was a red charcoal stove for burning more fuel.

Although I have a labour-saving washing machine, I still prefer to handwash my clothes. I used to change my heavy wooden washing boards frequently but for the past 10 years, I have been rubbing and scrubbing my laundry on this red plastic washing board. :)

I finally washed my son's filthy, smelly toy bear. For the past 3 years, he goes to sleep every night smelling it. I think he's going to have insomnia for the coming weeks. hehehe....

**************ooo O.O ooo************

EastCoastLife's Kimchi - FM, RT

ingredients for making kimchi

Sayre is hosting Fun Monday and she wants a step-by-step guide (pictures encouraged) for making my favorite summertime dish. This can be an entree, a vegetable, a casserole, or a dessert.

I made a Korean side dish.... the famous Kimchi!! Koreans serve kimchi at almost every meal. It's a winter dish but in tropical Singapore, my family and I love to eat this chilled spicy salad. It is easy to prepare and I usually make a huge quantity to give away.

Kimchi is a healthy dish, its all vegetables, something we all need a lot more of in our diet.

Ingredients :
3 Napa cabbage
1 bunch of scallions
1 raddish (shredded)
rice vinegar
sesame oil
Kosher salt (or sea salt)
Korean chilli powder (coarse)
a walnut sized knob of ginger (diced)
4 cloves garlic (crushed)
sesame seeds (roasted more flavourful)
sugar (optional)

Soak cabbage in salt water for 3 - 4 hours.

Trim scallions, slice the white part down the center, then cut into strips diagonally.

Combine the chilli, sesame seeds, ginger and crushed garlic into a sauce bowl. Add enough sesame oil to moisten everything, and an equal amount of rice vinegar (enough to make a paste). Toss gently but thoroughly, then spread the paste onto the cabbage. Make sure cabbage is well drained before adding the chilli paste.

cover and chill in the refrigerator for 3 days

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to the amounts,it's all done 'to taste', Keep the kimchi in the refrigerator for 3 days before eating.
Have it on toast, with rice, a side dish or as a soup. Enjoy!
