Gifts of Love - FM

I'm the host for Fun Monday this week and this is the theme  :

When it comes to gift-giving and receiving, men and women differ on many things.
Are men easier to please?
Show us the best and worst gift(s) you have ever received from your spouse/partner/lover?

Women want presents they wouldn't buy for themselves. I certainly don't expect this!

My husband gave me this singing cushion on my 40th birthday. I was speechless, I could not believe my eyes when I unwrapped it .... but I listened to his explanation :

A couple of days before my birthday, two young students entered his office with this cushion and said they were selling it to raise funds for an orphanage. It was only S$10 (US$4.30), my husband bought it without any hesitation. He decided to give it to me instead of a piece of jewellery.

My girlfriends were totally flabbergasted when they heard this. "He could have given it to your little niece! It's so cheap!"

How could I get angry? The gift is not to my liking but the giver has a noble heart.

My husband always remembers the chocolate cake and red roses on my birthday and our wedding anniversary. There is no surprises ..... I don't mind. It's the thought that counts.

err.... how do you complete it!?

My good friend oceanskies gave me this 'Brain Cube' when she visited me after my surgery. She is such a sweetheart, regularly checking on me and remembering my birthday.

Most women and men like to receive gifts that are useful, meaningful, sentimental and remind them of the gift-giver.

Do you agree?

  3. I dont agree fully...
I prefer to receive gifts that are useful and the ones that I like.. nothing else.

And I dont buy people random gifts either. I always like to give gifts that they want/like. Otherwise, your gift will be meaningless and forgettable or even discarded = waste of money. lol! ;D

  4. Totally agree! The best gift I have ever received is a big card which opens into 21 little birthday cards that were all carefully phrased, from 1 year old to 21 years old. And of course, it is hand made by Rick!

  6. i agree! and the important thing is that the gift giver puts some thought into the gift..

  7. Even if it wasn't a surprise, I'd love chocolate cake and roses! And a pillow with little puppies on it. Sounds like your man has a good heart - and that's what is the real gift.

  8. It is supposed to be the Spirit of the giver -- not the gift for which we are thankful..

But I'm not sure what I would have done with that singing cushion. ha

Hey -- is there a list of the Fun Monday participants?

    I'm up!

  9. To me a gift is a gift and that means that the person has thought of me and that itself is already a gift.
I don't care about the value of the gift, it could be 100 € or 1 €, that isn't important at all.
But I don't like people who make gifts to please themselves and don't care about the person they gave the gift to. That exists too !

  10. I appreciate any gift of course especially genuinely coming from the heart however I'm so OFF 'useful' gifts.I like to be surprised sometimes.
However I understand most ppl haven't the time nor means these day to scout for unusual gifts(me included)so flowers will do fine by me.Except'useful'potted plants PLEASE.I have a jungle of ferns & spathiphyllums etc the air in my house must be the most purified in the county.I can't even give them away as friends drop by & always ask "where's my plant?"LOL!
You seem perplexed by your hubby's musical cushion gift ECL LOL.For his birthday get him one of those silly Bugs Bunny ties!It might make him think twice next year.
Hope your resting well and winning some mahjong games.

  12. My husband would always say, ' just get what you want and charged it'!Save him the headache of choosing a gift and my disappointment when receiving something I don't fancy.

  13. I have told my husband you can NOT go wrong with Jewelry or my favorite perfume. He never listens. LOL

  14. Some might be sad because their husband gave them cheap stuff. But its not much about the gift its about remembering someone on special occasion.

  16. My hubby is practical. He will say why not he combines the gifts for a few occasions (i.e. wedding anniversary, Mother's Day and birthdays) as one gift since they are so close to each other? *faint*.

For me, I prefer to tell my husband to let me select my own gifts based on usability.

  17. I remember those Rubik Cubes from when I was a wee kid, it took me months to figure out how to complete the dam thing.

I usually get my girl some sexy underwear and a sweet smelling perfume, I think she is happy with them. I know I am...!

  18. Sometimes the gift might seem odd, but the thought is there.

  19. You are so right...its the thought that counts...everyone loves to be remembered on special occasions.

  20. My husband and I don't exchange gifts with each other for birthdays, anniversaries, or Christmas. We are nice to each other all year round so no gifts are necessary and we both agree. As for other people, we resort to gift cards or money. I hate giving stuff to people who have no use for them. It puts a burden on them to return it to the store or throw away. So you are right, I also think people want practical & useful things not necessarily to remind them of the gift giver.

  21. Dea Eastcoastlife, I am pleasantly surprised by the mention of myself in this post. Thank you for the honour. A brain cube was what I had thought would make a good gift for a Mensa member.

Thank you for your gift of your presence and friendship. I think these are invaluable, and money can't ever buy. :)

  22. it's not the gift but it's the thought that counts. it's a great feeling to be appreciated. Whether the gift-giver picked out the best or the worst gifts, they still bothered to get you something to show they care.
