At Teochew Festival 2014, I was so happy to see these lovely fish maw (鱼胶) on sale..... until I saw the prices. ╭(╯ε╰)╮

Fish maw is a good source of collagen and aids with blood circulation. Good grade fish maw are expensive ...... it can cost thousands of dollars for a kg.

Crowds gathered at this preserved pickles stall. They were tasting samples of pickles like Buddha's Hand gourd (chayote, 佛手瓜). I seldom eat pickles and preserved food due to health reasons, so I didn't buy any.

These pickles remind me of my late grandmother who must have these dishes daily as she ate her porridge. For decades, she ate these. She was healthy and had no major illness. She passed away peacefully due to old age at 98.

We watched a Teochew gongfu tea demonstration and sipped a small cup of fragrant pu er tea.

There are some really first grade tea which are priced very high. The 80 kg giant Chinese tea cake is selling at S$20 000, any takers?

We could smell the aroma of this Teochew traditional peanut candy a few stalls away. We tasted this fragrant Teochew snack while watching the masters making it. My friends bought some home and also to give away.

  2. There are two versions : sweet and salty. I prefer the sweet (and it is not too sweet) one. The salty one has too much salt content, it goes well with Teochew porridge. :)

  3. The peanut candy looks good. I wouldn't know what to do with a fish maw.
