One Community Walk 2011 @ Mountbatten - OurCommunity.Sg

MP Lim Biow Chuan flagging off the One Community Walk in Mountbatten constituency

I woke up very early to participate in One Community Walk, which is an annual nation-wide mass walking event engaging tens of thousands of residents, young and old, from all the constituencies in Singapore. Hundreds of residents were already gathered at Mountbatten Community Centre when I arrived at 7.30 am.

Gym Instructor Felicia conducted warm-up exercises for the participants before MP Lim Biow Chuan flagged off the walk. Several members from The Singapore Association for the Deaf turned up with their families to join us for the walk.
The 2-km route took participants round the Mountbatten estate.

It was a rare morning stroll for some residents as they walked along the tranquil Geylang River. It was a cool Sunday morning, we took in the sights and sounds of our estate while bantering with one another, meeting new neighbours and making new friends.

The Government-subsidized apartments in our estate were gaily decorated with our Singapore flags. In another 2 weeks' time, we will be celebrating our 46th National Day. I am looking forward to the parade and firework displays. :D

Banners and decorations in our country's colours were spotted around the estate.

The participants covered distances of one or two kilometres in one of the biggest displays of community bonding, attracting new immigrants who joined us for the walk.

After the walk, participants returned to Mountbatten Community Centre for a drink and a short rest before joining beautiful Felicia for a Mass Dance.

Feeling energized from the walk, participants danced with great fervor to the music of Lady Gaga. The crowd was at fever pitch. :D

residents looking for answers to a Know your Neighbourhood contest

After the Mass Dance event, many residents participated enthusiastically in a 'Know Your Neighbourhood' contest. It was a piece of cake for many of them as they have been living in Mountbatten for a long time. Luckily the organizers did not underestimate the residents' knowledge of their neighbourhood. There were plenty of prizes to give away. :D

There was a fire-fighting display by the Singapore Civil Defence Force and spectators were taught the correct way to use a fire extinguisher. Every one was encouraged to try their hands in putting out a fire. The kids were the happiest participants! They were squealing, "Can play with fire!" :D

To all Mountbatten residents, see you at One Community Walk 2012!!
