No, joking. hehe....

*gasp* Totally unexpected, a medium dipped his towel into the boiling oil and washed his body with it! I was not going to follow!! Notice the fire beneath, the oil was boiling.

Next medium rinsed his towel in the cauldron of boiling oil and washed his face and torso with the hot oil! Those helpers around him splashed more hot oil on him. Hot oil was flying everywhere!

After the participants have their turns, it was opened to all the worshippers.

Chris being dragging into the ritual

Surprisingly, the oil was boiling but it was not very hot. It was bearable. I dipped both hands in the bubbling oil.... for a few seconds only. There were helpers around helping out, making sure nobody gets hurt..

My hands are fine after submerging them in boiling oil!

Amazing!!

They are powerful hands now. :)

I smell of oil for days though .... urghhhh

  4. Ecl,

Wah! You were so brave. Can't bear to see your beautiful, silky smooth and pearly white hands ravaged by the boiling oil. Please don't do it again in future as you may not know the second time around.

  12. Wow! Came out of it unscathed? It's a miracle! Any explanation scientific or otherwise, why you didn't get burnt in the boiling oil?

  13. In my opinion, the oil that was used is not the normal oil we know of. I believe that the chemical properties of the oil must have been altered such that the boiling point of the oil is probably about 50 degrees Celsius or even lower. That way, the oil does indeed boil, but when people touches it, it is not boiling at a very hot temperature, so it does not scald the skin.

Do you buy my attempt to explain why your hands are fine after being submerged in boiling oil? It's my humble attempt to be scientific!

  16. I've seen a couple of those 'tangki' doing such death defying stunts back home. Never figured out how they pulled it off though.

Have you tried walking across those coals? If memory serves me correct, it's Thaipusan right?
