eastcoastlife is the Meanest Mom! - Weekend Snapshot #23

Dear Jaymes and all my wards,

Someday, you will be old enough to understand the logic that motivates me as a parent and your guardian.

I loved you enough . . . to ask where you were going, with whom, and what time you would be home.

I loved you enough to be silent and let you discover that your new best friend was a creep.

I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that should have taken 15 minutes.

I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment, and tears in my eyes. Children must learn that their parents aren't perfect.

I loved you enough to let you assume the responsibility for your actions even when the penalties were so harsh, they almost broke my heart.

But most of all, I loved you enough to say NO when I knew you would hate me for it. Those were the most difficult battles of all. I'm glad I won them, because in the end you won, too. And someday when your children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates parents, you will tell them.

My son and wards say I'm mean..... in fact I'm the meanest mother in the whole world! :)

When they become parents, they will know what's wrong with the world today.
It just doesn't have enough Mean Moms!

Happy Mother's Day to all Moms!!

    Thanks. :)

Cherish your Mom and spend more time with her. My Mom and mother-in-law are getting older and weaker each day, we dread to think of never spending Mother's Day with them.

Today we spent the morning with my Mom and the afternoon with my Mother-in-law. My son gets some time with me alone. A meaningful day for all of us..... looking forward to next year's. :)

  5. Happy mother day ECL. I think I like the last one most - learn to say no to children. Otherwise when they get older, they would not know how to say no to others and to themselves.

  7. haha.. when i was a small gurl, i oso used to *think* that my mom so mean.. but now, i constantly remind myself that she's not getting any younger... and that i must not do things or say things that might hurt her.. difficult at times, but the constant reminder at the back of my mind helps :)

  11. Powerful post. I am a "mean" Mom too. Parent's need too be firm and prepare their children for the real world. Always love them but teach them independence and strength and above all, respect. Happy Mother's Day!

  12. Great post ECL and Happy Mother's Day. Not only was I a mean mother, when I was a performer I used the name "Mean Mad Mamma" for my singer/songwriter act, and that's the truth, ha. Hope you've had a great day.

  21. rainbow angeles,
When we were younger, we tend to hurt our parents because we dun understand their love for us.

As a parent, I'm going through what they went through when I was their immature daughter then.

It should be mother's and father's day everyday! :)

  45. Belated Happy Mother's Day ECL.
It's a wonderful post highlighting a mother's kindness and concern.

Thanks for visiting. Sorry haven't visited in a while. My parents are here for a vacation and I've been spending a lot of quality time with them. I also missed a lot of memes recently. Take care!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Very well said. I've just wanted to tell my boy the same thing...

    ReplyDelete
  47. wow...ECL...that is indeed the meanest mom I had ever seen....LOL

    Happy Mother's Day to you....

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hahaha... this is funny picture, but the reading was really cool. I guess the way children see their parents is just inevitable - always too strict. We've probably all been through that, and when we come out the other end as adults, we appreciate it.

Happy belated mothersday to you too ECL!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I couldn't help but laugh at the picture :D

True, moms can be mean...but it's what gets the job done properly. And someday, they'll thank us mean moms :D

Happy Mother's Day and happy WS!

  50. Children, emmm, they are so small, and during their growing years, perhaps cannot see beyond what we parents can. I wish sometimes I can put each on my shoulder.
