Bollywood Veggies - WW

I went on a tour of our Kranji Countryside. There is a whole village of activities where you can visit art galleries, enjoy pottery and woodworks, little restaurants and nurseries besides the Sungei Buloh Bird Sanctuary. There are several farms to visit, you don’t have to go all the way to Australia.

Bollywood Veggies is owned by Ivy Singh-Lim, past president of Netball Singapore. Together with her husband Lim Ho Seng, she started this 10-acre farm. Organic vegetables and fruit trees are grown without chemicals, fertilisers, pesticides, and no growth hormones. There are fishponds and a lovely spice garden.Bollywood Veggies is the largest producer of organic bananas and papayas in Singapore. They also specialise in fruit vegetables such as ladies fingers, long beans, cucumbers, bitter gourds. They also grow uncommon medicinal trees and herbs and probably the hottest chilli padi on the island. There is also a natural and beautiful lotus pond in the Sanctuary.

You can buy organically grown vegetables, pots of herbs and medicinal plants, have a lovely meal at the Poison Ivy Bistro, or just stroll about on the farm.

Leave your poo at the Eco toilet....

The airconditioned Bistro can seat up to 70 persons and it also has an Al Fresco area which can seat at least 100 persons

  4. judy,
Because the lady Boss is a celebrity! And her veggies are also popular because they don't contain harmful substances. My logical explanation. hehehe....

I'll have to ask her this question the next time I see her.

  13. I try to go organic whenever possible but sometimes just too expensive, and Singapore also hard to find in the typical marts. Did not know about this organic farm in Sg. Hmmm....
How much they sell organic bananas? As a benchmark, US organic bananas is about 0.29cents(USD) for each banana (not one bunch!).

Anyway, there are top ten fruits that have most pesticides residues and shd take organic ones, whenever possible. Bananas and papayas not part of them. But strawberries, and other berries....better take organic ah!

  14. Hi ECL, I'm surprised at the English language signs. Is English used a lot in Singapore or are these signs for the tourists?
    Your pictures tell many stories.
    Happy WW/WM/WT!

  15. tigerfish,
There are a few organic farms in this countryside. I don't bother about going organic... not only is it expensive, it's a hassle going out of the way to buy organic stuff.

Sell bananas one by one!? That's expensive! I can get the whole comb for a few dollars!

The organic bananas are sweet though. They don't look nice. Smaller in size.

  16. Jim,
English signs are commonly found everywhere in Singapore although the majority of the population is Chinese. English is our first language. ^-^

  27. What a beautiful place to visit, eastcoast! But watch out for the snakes. My hubby and I once went hiking in an Australian rainforest but when we came out we saw a sign that said watch out for alligators. The sign was at the end of the trip not at the beginning!! Ha!

  39. Maybe the veggies sing and dance - is that why it's called Bollywood veggies?
