Photo Hunt - Important

Important - Save Lives

Chris receiving his award from Mayor Matthias Yao

My husband has been a regular blood donor for years. He donates blood at least twice annually. He received a Bronze Award for 25 Blood Donation last year. (Silver Award - 50 blood donations and Gold, 100.) Of course, my husband doesn't donate blood just to get the awards. lol

Singapore needs an average of 350 units of blood daily. All blood collected is distributed to hospitals for various purposes. Blood is needed during bone marrow transplants for leukaemia patients, for thalasemia patients needing regular blood transfusions, during daily surgeries and for accident victims.

It takes 45 minutes for a blood donation, and it is painless.

A “Birthday Programme” has been launched. It wants to highlight to blood donors that even if they donate blood just once a year, they can help save the lives of many. Make a Pledge to Help the Nation on Your Birthday!

Be a Blood Donor. Help save a Life.

I was found unsuitable to be a blood donor because I'm anaemic. Bummer. I'm trying to achieve a healthy blood level so I can donate blood together with my husband and son.

  20. Awesome cause. I am a blood donor as well and last time made it to my first gallon (just under 4 liters). Unfortunately last time I went I was rejected for low iron, so I gotta eat more red meat next time!

  21. I used to donate blood regularly in the UK, USA and Singapore, but cannot donate here in Australia because I lived in the UK between 1980 and 1984 and am risk because of Mad Cow Disease. Disappointing because I am o negative, which is the universal donor and useful.

  26. I agree blood is very important. Mr. Gattino got the golden award from our princess Astrid here and now he had to stop because of his age.

  27. Hubby does the same thing.
Your husband's awards are well deserved!

The needle is just a little prick, it isn't painful at all. Think of the life you are going to save.

  31. napaboaniya,
hahaha.... you notti girl. Scaring your hubby so early in the morning.

It would be good if he could become a regular blood donor. We need all the help we could get.

  37. Donating blood is certainly important! Back home in Canada, my mom was a regular blood donor (here in Germany, she's not allowed to donate.) Sadly, our dad isn't able to donate blood because he spent 6 months in the UK back in the early 90s, and Canadian Blood Services won't accept his blood.

  38. I donated blood before I became a mum, regularly.

Now..it's hard to find the time! The wait is really long in KL.

Well, when my kids r bigger...i'll start filling up my book again, but in a diff country lor...he he...

But I think men's blood r better as they have better platelets??? Or something like that..

  39. Oh wow...hats off to your husband! Nice take on the theme!
    Thanks for stopping by mine.
    Happy Weekend!

  40. What a great honor! I used to donate blood all of the time here in the US. and Now because I have traveled ALL OVER the world, they are being picky about my blood....and I am O+ too!

    ReplyDelete
  41. That is a very important thing and it's good that you have brought it to our attention. I have been banned from giving blood because I fainted whenever I did it. I didn't mind but they said no.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yes, blood saves lives. We used to have blood donation drives at the college. I was considered underweight and not allowed to donate.

    Thanks for visiting mine.

    ReplyDelete
  43. WOW! 25 times? Oh my... I am not eligible to donate blood because I don't even have enough for myself. Haha... (=

    ReplyDelete
  44. Donating Blood is very IMPORTANT. Although our Mommy says it isn't painless. She has little veins that roll and lots of times they have to stick her multiple times to get blood.

So we think it was very brave of Chris to donate blood and very nice of you to tell everyone about it.

  51. Hi ECL! You must be feeling proud for your husband!

Anyway, your husband should be awarded! It's akin to doing good deeds in helping the needy.

  53. I just wanted to tell you that today I have a very special little video on my blog. It is absolutely hilarious and shows the demolition of several houses in Brussels. It happened last week. They did it so good, that the neighbor found himself with a toilet without wall. If you like it give the word.
    I found it on a Belgian blog;

  54. Your husband is a good man. Congratulations, not just for the award but for the thoughtful and kind actions.

Have a great week, ECL :)

in msia, if u donate blood more than certain times, u get free admission to hospital...i think...or some kinda privilage...

    so, reli cool!!

and plus, giving blood is healthy for the donor!

  57. I'd say donating blood is very important. Unfortunately mine, due to it's slightly anemic iron level, is not acceptable. Good thing there are people out there like your husband! Happy hunting!

    ReplyDelete
  58. What a noble thing to do. I admire your husband for his great sense of caring for others.

I've never donated blood before but I think it's a great deed to do for others.

  59. Wow ... 100 donation for a gold medal! What does it take to get a platinum medal?!

Too bad. Singapore doesn't want my blood ... I know, every time when I say this people think that I am positive ... ha ha ha.

I lived in UK during the mad cow disease period and for live, my blood won't be accepted here in Singapore :)

On a seperate note, I wonder if they give out medals if I was to donate someone of a different color than red in a regular basis ... hmmm.
