Jaymes and ECL with Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and MP Lim Biow Chuan.
The whole family woke up at 6am to set up booth at our constituency's Town Day. My husband who is a grassroot leader, was 'thrown' a booth to sell something. Within 2 days, we made a mad rush to get products ready for our booth.
We set up the booth before 8am. The weather was cool in the morning, but turned hot later. It was great to see many residents with their families turning up at the event. The children enjoyed themselves the most at the game stalls, They were also treated to free cotton candy, Milo beverage, balloons and snacks.
Several residents' committees have set up booths to sell Chinese New Year products, food and gift items. There were exhibitions by NEA (National Environment Agency), Singapore Police Force, NLB (National Library Board) and LTA (Land & Transport Authority). There was subsidised health screening (S$2) for the residents too.
Residents queuing for health screening.
This event's objective is to promote and enhance understanding, respect. mutual support and interaction among residents of Mountbatten Constituency with different backgrounds. We expect more than 2,000 residents to turn up.
The 5 Members of Parliament from Marine Parade GRC, including Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong were greeted by a God of Fortune, 8 dancing lions and a dragon.
SM Goh and MP Lim with contestants from 3-generation families.
SM Goh went round the booths with the MPs. He stopped by our booth to have a chat with us. He asked Jaymes where was he studying. When he heard Jaymes was in SHATEC, he gave an approving nod and commented that Jaymes would never have to worry about a job with the opening of the IRs (Integrated resorts with casinos, theme parks and shopping malls) !
We didn't make a killing that day. We packed up and went off early to shop for plants at ex-MP Andy Gan's nursery.... and met MM Lee Kuan Yew's younger brother. It was a good day for meeting VVIPs......

Good luck!
Judging from his beer belly, GCT must be enjoying his SM lifestyle these days :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great weekend! Literally rubbing shoulders with SM Goh Chok Tong!
ReplyDeleteIt must have been a fun and memorable day for everyone. Glad you had a chance to meet some important people.
ReplyDeleteOh! I missed this :p Wished I have known abt this earlier, then I can visit you at your booth. :)
ReplyDeleteWe do join in this kind of event in our neighbourhood too :) And we are staying very close to each other :)
I'm not sure if you noticed, when SM Goh visit the neighbourhood, you will see the cleaner doing a more thorough job and they will even do paint touchup under the block.
lz mommy,
ReplyDeleteEvery time a VIP visit the ward, the cleaners will be busy cleaning, washing and making repairs to the estate. It's not news and not only for SM Goh.
Which constituency are you in? Marine Parade? We have to meet up for tea some time.
Let me mentioned this incident I had while I was in primary school. There was this girl who was posted to my class, a Singapore PR, and her grades were really bad. Until when she met one of the prime minister(s) (forgot which one though) and not only get to rub hands with them, she also appeared on TV with them, unintentional though. And after that "chance encounter", her grades suddenly improved (no doubt she also studied hard too) and she went to a top Secondary school. Blast it! I was so jealous of her. Seems like it's really good fortune to rub shoulders with "celebs" like S. R. Nathan, Lee Kuan Yew, Lee Hsien Long, etc. Their good luck and fortune sort of rub off onto you. Now, I am jealous of you liao...
ReplyDeleteCool blog & pictures! Where is Andy Gan's nursery located?
