Harry Porter Magic @ Singapore Philatelic Museum

My son grew up watching Harry Porter movies and reading the books which fuelled his love of reading. They are the only books that could made him sit down and read quietly. That was the time he was talking as if he was from a different planet and in a strange language to me then. haha....

When the books were adapted into feature films, I accompanied him to five Harry Porter movie premiers. Eight "Harry Potter" movies were released over a ten-year period between 2001 and 2011 :

"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," (2001)
"Chamber of Secrets" (2002)
"Prisoner of Azkaban" (2004)
"Goblet of Fire" (2005)
"Order of the Phoenix" (2007)
"Half-Blood Prince" (2009)
and both parts of "Deathly Hallows" (2010, 2011)

So I had indulged in a little Harry Porter magic but I actually know nothing much about this boy wizard.

Visiting the newly opened “Collecting Magic: From Stamps to Wands” exhibition organised by the Singapore Philatelic Museum (SPM), the selection of movie memorabilia made me re-live the happy moments I spent with my son at the Harry Porter movies.

Although I am not a Harry Porter fan, I was spellbound by the comprehensive collection of Harry Porter-themed stamps and collectibles at the exhibition. Wait till my son see these .... haha....

The one and only framed collection of original and authentic signatures of the leading cast of the movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Surprisingly, Taiwan was the first country to issue licensed Harry Porter stamps in the world.

Children would be thrilled to play with the interactive multimedia exhibits designed by students from Nanyang Polytechnic's School of Interactive and Digital Media. It was fun to wave a wand and see "magic" happening on a screen. They would probably be as curious as I when they watch portraits "move". Wish the students could design one with me in the portrait.

Check out the rest of the collection : First Day Covers, stamp sheets, the first-edition books, postcards, special cancellations, a limited-edition DVD box set and unusual stamp labels with heat-sensitive ink at the Singapore Philatelic Museum.
