Breakfast at Tanjong Pagar Plaza Food Centre
Tanjong Pagar Plaza Food Centre is one of the few hawker centres in the Central Business District, but one could still find delicious and affordable food here.
My first visit to the food centre was during the busy lunch hours with a foodie friend. The place was crowded but we were lucky to get a table. We have to queue for 40 minutes for our meal. Will write about that later.
One morning, I brought my hubby to the food centre for breakfast. A friend had recommended the Hainanese curry puffs at Rolina. Bought one freshly made curry chicken puff (S$1.40) to try. Still piping hot, it was small compared to the usual curry puffs I have eaten. The skin was thin though .... taste was average.

This char kway teow (fried rice noodles S$3, regular) was another recommended dish by foodies. This stall uses a narrow type of rice noodles and it is prepared more like the Penang-style char kway teow.
My hubby does not eat cockles, so this picture does not show the authentic Singapore char kway teow. haha...

I was surprised to find 3 Chinese (non-halal) nasi lemak stalls in Tanjong Pagar Plaza Food Centre. Each stall has a queue in front of their stall, each stall has its own regular customers. Undecided which one to eat, hubby suggested buying from two stalls that have the longer queues.
At S$3 a plate, I have a fried chicken wing, fried fish fillet, an egg and sambal chilli from Makan Sutra Nasi Lemak Pandan Rice. There wasn't much selection of vegetables.
Their coconut rice is more fragrant and fluffy and the spicy sambal chilli tastes better.

The queue at Xiang Xiang Nasi Lemak was the longest, with several customers having takeaways. This stall, runs by an elderly couple, offers quite a good selection of accompaniments.
Their S$3 plate consists of a fried egg, otak otak, battered chicken wing and a fried fish. Good value for S$3. Saw a regular customer asked for some crispy fried batter crumbs and I requested for a scoop, got it for free. I paid 50 cents for a small scoop of sambal ikan bilis.
Their sambal ikan bilis with peanuts is popular and they also sell it in packed containers.
I prefer their battered fried chicken wing, it's more fragrant and crispy.
