Shakespeare Lives Day - 23 April 2016 “永恒的莎士比亚”纪念活动2016

Shakespeare died on April 23 in 1616 at the age of 52. Today marks the 400th anniversary of great English Bard's death and in Singapore, The British High Commission and the British Council celebrate ‘Shakespeare Lives’ Day with invited guests at the library @ esplanande.

HE Scott Wightman, British High Commissioner to Singapore and Roland Davies, Director of British Council Singapore joined Guest of Honour Ms Grace Fu, Singapore Minister for Culture, Community and Youth in presenting welcome remarks.

‘Letters to Shakespeare’ reading by Adrian Pang. So glad to meet Adrian Pang in person.

Prize presentation by HE Scott Wightman to the winners of ‘Writing the City’ competition organised by British Council. The winners posed for a group picture with Minister Grace Fu.

We watched a brief performance by Singapore Repertory Theatre of Romeo and Juliet - starring Shane Mardjuki as Mercution and Benjamin Chow as Benvolio.

VIPs took a walk through the ‘Letters to Shakespeare’ exhibition.


今天是莎士比亚逝世400周年。他于1616年4月23日去世,享年52岁。

上午我出席了英国驻新加坡大使馆和英国文化协会共同举办的“永恒的莎士比亚”纪念活动。文化、社区及青年部长傅海燕是特别主宾。

纪念活动在滨海艺术中心图书馆举行。

  3. I have visited Shakespeare's town, birth house etc. Very interesting where he grew up !
