Living in a small apartment, I am not able to have my dream outdoor garden. Making do with what little space I have, I am still able to keep a few pots of ornamental plants at home to offer some outdoor beauty and peace to our living space.

In April this year, I was invited to a Terranium Workshop where I made a mini terrarium. It is now sitting in my home office and the plants inside are growing well. The plants require low maintenance and are perfect for people like me who don't have the time to care for plants and just don't have a "green thumb."  :D

Since 1st January this year, we have 13,588 dengue cases in Singapore and 4 dengue deaths! At the advice of an elder, I place bundles of pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius) in my home because it is a good mosquito repellent. It works!

My son and I used to have mosquito bites almost every day. Since placing pandan leaves in our home, I have only been bitten by mosquitoes twice during these months. The sweet scent from the leaves makes the house smell good too.

Being around plants helps me concentrate better. Nurturing plants reduces stress levels too. :)

  9. Lovely pics and interesting about those plants! I hate mosquitoes. They are bad here too bringing West Nile Virus which makes susceptible people very sick.

  10. I love having plants around me also. I'm not so great with houseplants but we get plenty of light here so I'm hoping I will be able to over-winter some of the plants from the porch.

  12. Hi ECL, I like your terrarium. I don't have a green thumb so my mom made me a really beautiful artificial ficus tree for my living room. I just need to dust it every now and then. She knew me very well. :) That is very interesting to learn about the pandan leaves. It's great that it keeps the mosquitoes away.

    Have a wonderful week.
