Songkran Water Festival - PhotoHunt
PhotoHunt theme : Coffee or tea?/ Zoom
April is the hottest month of the year in Thailand. For a week, the whole country celebrates a fun festival with friendly water fights and street parties. Tourists like myself flew into Bangkok particularly to enjoy this colourful and festive carnival.
We bought several huge water guns. There were chaos along the roads leading to my hotel. Everyone went bananas and started shooting water at strangers. Some locals threw buckets of water at us. Nobody got angry. It was fun though. :D
At the Central World Mall, there were fun-filled events featuring entertainment, food, attractions and rides such as a Ferris wheel, merry-go-rounds and games. Most interesting and fun was a foam party.
It was difficult to get near the crowds for better shots without getting my camera wet. I stayed in the air-con buildings and zoomed in on the action outside :D
During Songkran, most offices, banks, small family-run restaurants and shops are closed as the people go back to their hometown for reunions with their families. Big shopping malls remain open. Thankful that my favourite Thai restaurant was opened. Love their delicious Thai milk tea and crispy salmon skins. hehe.....

A speciality of my favourite Thai restaurant, the salmon skins are fried into crispy snacks. :)
DeleteThat looks like a fun festival and the tea looks refreshing.
ReplyDeleteWet and enjoying it in Bangkok for that 4 days. Besides the water thrown at us, the refreshing tea cooled us down in that hot weather.
DeleteThat tea looks so yummy! The foam party must have been a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteI love Thai milk tea. I didn't participate but had a good laugh watching the people having fun :)
Deletethe waterfights sound like a lot of fun - as long as you are expecting them. :)
ReplyDeleteYay, it was a friendly war between locals and the foreigners. In fact the locals taught us how to have fun during Songkran. We learnt many innovative ways to win a water fight.
DeleteWhat a nice event. Shooting water is very interesting. I'm surprised that adults not children enjoy it. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was mostly the adults who were participating and enjoying the water fights. Passers-by were not spared, they have buckets of water thrown in their faces or face a full blast from the water gun brigade :D.
DeleteNot supposed to get angry if one gets wet during Songkran, the water is a form of blessing.
Songkran looks like a lot of fun! :)
ReplyDeleteSongkran water festival is fun :)
DeleteThat I call a fun street party ! Would love to participate and get very wet, lol !
ReplyDeleteHi ECL, wow, that festival looks like so much fun! I think I would enjoy attending an event like that. I don't blame you for zooming in from a distance to capture the joyous occasion. :) I had tea with milk for the first time in Scotland and really liked it. I had never tried it with ice. That looks so refreshing. I have to say that those salmon skins look delicious too.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend.
oh this sounds like so much fun! here it would be in August, but everyone runs away from the heat instead of embracing it!
ReplyDeleteLooks like heaps of fun ECL at least everyone is dressed for the occasion haha!
ReplyDeletelooks fun..haven't experienced that before.
ReplyDeleteMy future daughter in-law want to visit Thailand and I need to tell her about this. Sound like a wild fun time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting earlier and drinks are on me.
Sure looks like fun! :)
