Scrumptious and TV Seat - PhotoHunt

PhotoHunt theme : Where do you sit when watching TV?/ Scrumptious

Curry Fish Head

This is one scrumptious meal that had me holding back my tears as I ate.

A long time family friend invited my family for a meal one weekend. He brought us to his favourite restaurant which serves scrumptious seafood.

He ordered a huge Curry Fish Head and several specialities of the restaurant. When he was ordering the dishes, I noticed that his wife was frowning. Sensing my concern, she confided that her husband is having final stage lung cancer. Knowing he doesn't have much time left, he gave us this farewell treat. I was shocked and chided her for not letting us know earlier, also he shouldn't be eating these spicy and oily food.

The wife sadly shared that her husband has given up hopes of getting well and intended to enjoy his favourite dishes until the day he dies. He throws away whatever herbal brews or medicine his wife brings him. When we tried to persuade him to abstain from consuming these rich foods, he refuses.

Yesterday night, we received news that the cancer has spread to other parts of his body and he is warded. We shall be visiting him this Sunday.

The display outside the stall for diners to choose, no menu is needed. Stacks of plates filled with all manner of fish and the ingredients to be used in cooking them.

The past week while I was on medical leave, I watched a Korean TV drama series which has a 'sob sob' theme. The beautiful lead actress has cancer. Armed with scrumptious snacks and a box of tissue papers, I spent unproductive time chasing the drama. Silly me.

    1. It came as a shock as he is a very good husband and father. Feeling sad for his family.

Your hubby sounds like a good cook. Glad to hear that you can still get a great Curry Fish Head in the USA.

  2. My Dad was the same way. He passed away from cancer in 1999, and in the months before he died he allowed himself to have whatever he wanted food wise. I'm sorry to hear of your friend. (((hugs))))

  3. Great shots for the themes. I'm sorry about your friend's husband. As far as curry goes, there have been clinical trials with curcumin (the spice in curry) that show it may have some benefit in treating cancer. The Mayo clinic and Sloane Kettering have studies on this. Of course when using it as part of a treatment they give people pill supplements with curcumin but my point is that eating curry dishes isn't necessarily a bad thing.

  4. When I read the tears bit early on, I thought it'd be because the curry was super spicy... Wish that had been the case. Re your family friend: I'm glad he's got to enjoy delicious food like that, and hope that he will be able to enjoy it for some time to come.

  5. Sad news about your friend's husband.

My friend who passed away recently had the same attitude. She just want to enjoy the last few days and it included eating (although not much) with her loved ones, family and friends.

  11. I can understand how he feels. When the time comes I want to enjoy the things I love until I can no longer enjoy them . . . challenging times for all.

  14. I am sorry to hear about your friend, but at least he is able to go out to enjoy his meal instead of being bedridden. Occasionally we need some quiet time even to watch sad dramas.
