Let's Come Clean! - FM

Fun Monday theme (12th April 2010) :

Laundry Room from the 1940s - my grandma's time

Everyone has laundry. Where do you do yours? Show us your Laundry room, or where you go to get those clothes clean!

This week's host is Janice from the Prytz family.

my grandma used a charcoal iron to press

I remember seeing my grandmother using a charcoal iron when I was a young kid. The hinged lid and the air holes allowed the charcoal to keep smouldering. On the side was a red charcoal stove for burning more fuel.

Although I have a labour-saving washing machine, I still prefer to handwash my clothes. I used to change my heavy wooden washing boards frequently but for the past 10 years, I have been rubbing and scrubbing my laundry on this red plastic washing board. :)

I finally washed my son's filthy, smelly toy bear. For the past 3 years, he goes to sleep every night smelling it. I think he's going to have insomnia for the coming weeks. hehehe....

**************ooo O.O ooo************

Theme for Fun Monday (19th April 2010) :

When it comes to gift-giving and receiving, men and women differ on many things. Are men easier to please? Show us the best and worst gift(s) you have ever received from your spouse/partner/lover?

Everybody is welcome to play Fun Monday. A host will volunteer each week to come up with a fun theme. To find out who is hosting, the burden is on you ... you simply follow the previous host's posts that will lead you to the current host.

Or..., you can come back to my blog every Sunday to find out who's the next host. Don't forget to leave your link here, so that the others know that you posted. It's courteous to visit as many of the bloggers who participate as possible.

  5. These were hard times for women (I mean your Grandma's !) but that you still handwash ??? I am not masochist at that point, lol ! I push the button and return to my computer or do something else until the machine has finished the work ! and I never buy things who need to be handwashed (or ironed !)

  15. I never hand wash anything, nor do I iron, except when I quilt. Next time I have to hand wash, I'll think of you. I'm looking for some one to host FM, next week. Would you be interested?

  16. OMG you hand wash your clothes? I'd be dead doing that. LOL If it isn't automatic I won't do it. It's hard enough for me to get it out to the machines and then fold it. I never knew they made coal irons. How cool. Thanks for sharing :)

  19. I enjoyed looking at your 1940's photos. Although I was born in '46, I do not remember much about the laundry except that I burned my fingers on my mother's roller sheet iron.

  20. like Mariuca, i hate ironing. hehe...i'm such a lazy-bone. i normally buy wrinkle-free clothes. laundry is enough of a chore to worry about ironing.

  21. How did they get the laundry lines so far up the wall? Being a rather short person, I see stuff like that all the time.

  22. I love that first photo! I have several items of clothing in which the tag says to "hand wash". I just throw it in my front load machine and hit the "hand wash" cycle. Technology is awesome!
