Day Off in a Foreign Land - PH

PhotoHunt theme : Foreign

It was the 3rd day of Chinese New Year and a public holiday. I had just finished visiting a temple when I saw this group of foreign workers standing on a hill, staring at the sky.

Curious, I climbed up the hill and found that they were watching a man flying his radio control airplane. In recent years, this hobby has gained in popularity in Singapore. It is fun to watch, but the thought of taking up this hobby did not cross my mind. :)

Later, while meeting my friends for dinner at the Bottle Tree Park, I came across several Japanese families enjoying their day off prawn fishing.

The foreigners have found ways to spend their day off in a foreign land. Both activities above are enjoyed by young and old alike, are rewarding, exhilarating, educational and addictive.

It sure beats going to the newly-opened, crowded casino on Sentosa Island. :D

  3. Prawn fishing sounds more exciting to me. I have friends who love to go out to the Marina Green or the beach and fly their radio controlled planes. That never interested me. I'd rather be in a plane traveling somewhere :D

  4. Well... that's an expensive hobby for me. I can't imagine how my friend could spend thousands on his radio cars. :P

  6. Nice take on the theme. The world seems like a very small place when you see people from all over the world when you visit the park.

  12. Hi ECL,

I love very much this post of yours as what we have taken to be commonplace, normal pastime can be really much appreciated and wondered upon by other foreigners who have lead a more modest life back home.

As such, we Singaporeans should treasure the good and stable lives and amenities that we have and not to forget that these would not have been possible without the hard work of our ancestors.

Last but not least, wish you a speedy recovery! I hope you are recuperating well as it is certainly not easy to go around daily errands on a wheelchair.

    Yours Sincerely,

  20. Lovely photos. Interesting take on the theme "foreign", that you could find foreign visiters right near where you live. The model airplanes would be something that would interest my 8 year old son.
    Hope you are well!
    Best wishes,
