Recovering from Surgery..... - WW

Finally my ankle surgery was done during the Chinese New Year holidays. Many relatives and friends were shocked that I agreed to have my surgery done during this period. My surgery had been delayed for more than 8 months and I wasn't prepared to wait any longer. :P

I had been experiencing a persistent pain in my left ankle after a holiday trip to Penang in 2007. The accident was an unforgettable one because it happened before I could commence my vacation. My left ankle was becoming weaker and I could not walk properly.

After the surgery, I reacted badly to the anaesthesia and was sick for a few days, throwing up everything I consumed. I am discharged from the hospital....., still on painkillers and recuperating at home now. :)

Rehabilitation is a slow process. I need to attend therapy sessions for two to three months and I should expect full recovery to take up to six months. I use crutches during this time as the amount of weight borne on the foot is gradually increased.

I need to be on a wheelchair should I leave the house ......

  1. I had the same reaction toward the anesthesia too, until the doctor had to give me a jab to stop the vomitting!

Wishing you speedy recovery ECL, and take care.

  7. You need to ask your doctor about that. The one that is doing the surgery. 2. Surgery to take a scar away just adds a new scar.

So you were in wheelchair during the CNY? Then I guess you weren't out and about visiting people all that much during CNY.

  14. Poor girl ! I am so sorry for you. I know healing an ankle lasts a long time ! Anaesthesia can be very dangerous if they don't know exactly what to use. My son was allergic to one, when he woke up he got crazy, throw away everything, bumped his head against the walls and attacked everybody around him. 4 men were needed to hold him down and give him a shot ! fortunately they only had pulled out the 4 wisdom molars and nothing else ! I found him covered in blood and the male "nurses" breathless, I have to say my son is 2 m long and 90 kg heavy, lol !
    I wish you a quick recovery !

  19. I hope you'll get totally better very soon! I know about the feeling after a chirurgical intervention! you need a lot of patience and courageous. Luckely with the net the time isn't so long when you have to stay at home!

  20. Edi, you had the surgery at the exact right time. BeenThere, DoneThat; you're healing with the spring. that will make the bone stronger and probably prevent any pain of arthritis.

I suggest you get a knee scooter to use instead of a wheelchair. use the months while you are healing to write your travel guide. it's the right time to do that too. so you can get it on the shelves for christmas and new years gifting.

Feel Wonderful and Heal Strong My Friend.

  24. I had three ankle surgeries and I know how painful it can be... For me, bone pains are the worst. I also react bad to anesthesia.
In my case it was a long recovery and never got back 100% to normal.
I hope you recover fast. "Get well soon"... wishes from your Portuguese blogging budy :)
    Regards, Mizé.
