Crossing Bridges....... - PH

PhotoHunt theme : Bridge(s)

Would you climb up and down steps lined with sharp blades bare-footed just to cross a bridge? There were 18 blades each way.

the sharp blades

This is a Taoist ritual. To the believers, this ritual signifies the passage through obstacles and difficulties to attain a better life. It is believed to eliminate bad luck, evil, villains etc. Some worshippers ask for blessings while many would expect good fortune.

This bridge is easier to cross. :)

  1. Personally I wouldn't. If only obstacles in life could all be solved by just crossing 18 blades then yes. But it takes more than 18 blades. :)

  2. Don't think so - sounds scary to me :-)

  4. Renny,

  5. I think it would be a challenge, that's for sure!
When I was younger, I probably would have attempted it.
    But no way now -
My feet hurt enough as it is :-)

  7. Dawn,
    IT IS a challenge. :)
There were many elderly who attempted this. Very brave of them.

  8. Gattina,
    hahaha.....
The shiny sharp blades caused fear in many people.

One slip and the climber could be sliced and cut.

We should be adventurous eh. I saw many elderly and young kids doing it.

  19. This is a tradition that I may have to say no to. I know obstacles can be overcome but this a little too dangerous for me.

  20. Dave,
    It is a dangerous tradition.
    This event is held yearly.

  21. Hi Rolly,
No, I was not hurt. I did it slowly and cautiously. I tried this more for the experience. I saw some elderly people doing it and they didn't get hurt. I didn't even have a cut on my feet.

  22. i don't have the courage to experience such rituals. i'm clearly a scaredy cat.

    ReplyDelete
  23. This is a perfect interpretation. There's a bonus lesson on rituals and religion too. Very cool.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's a cool sounding ritual. I'm probably be scared to do it though. It reminds me a bit of fire-walking. Love seeing the photos!

I thought it's only a fiction in a Kungfu movies.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have never seen anything like this. BTW-I have an award for you.

  39. If the elderly can do it, I would also have a go at it for the experience eventhough scary. The walking uphill by thaipusam devotees on nail studded shoes these few days here is also very frightening.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Now, that is one very challenging task and I don't know is I am up to the challenge :)

    Happy weekend, ECL!

  45. Hi!
    Dropping by from Sweet Jasmine's.

It is a definite NO NO to go thru this. What if difficulties still struck after crossing the bridges? Blame myself for not crossing properly? or blame God?

haha....we shall not have all these to control our fate..

    Cheers!

  46. omg! blades on each step? no way! i'll choose the 2nd bridge anytime.:D
