S$1 Lunch and a Fun Contest ! - Weekend Snapshot #25

With rising food prices everywhere, where can you get a S$1 (US$0.74) Lunch and a fun contest thrown in?

Lunch buffet for S$1

Katong Community Centre organises a monthly lunch for its residents on the last Sunday. Residents pay a nominal S$1. And there is an interesting activity as well. Last month was Paper Flower Making for Mother's Day. This month, we have a Rice Dumpling Wrapping demonstration and contest. Next month, it will be Sushi Making. :)

Rice Dumpling demonstration

Katong Community Centre organises many activities so that its residents get to interact with one another. My husband is a member of the management communittee. Next month, Katong Community Centre will hold an Open House on 15th June which is also Father's Day.

Contestants wrapping their rice dumplings

In conjunction with its Open House, it is holding a Family Carnival and Healthy Lifestyle Day, showcasing its courses and activities. There are talks by medical and eyecare professionals, game stalls, Nonya food stall and entertainment. Free entrance. All are welcome. :)

  20. leonard,
Yes, there are lots of activities organised by grassroot members, who are volunteers, in my GRC. My hubby is one of the active members. :)

No, we didn't eat the food. My family had gone for a hearty breakfast that morning and we just dropped in to see the rice dumpling wrapping contest.

The food's for the residents and only when they have eaten, then the volunteers will eat. And not all the volunteers will eat the food. Usually they would eat lunch at their own homes or go for lunch after the event.

  50. The Katong CC deserves many praises for the ingenious idea of organising monthly lunch for its residents at a nominal price, and to conduct other interesting activities with the lunch. I am sure that such ideas will attract many residents to participate at the Katong CC, and foster stronger neighbourly ties.

Talking about participating in a Community Centre, it has been a long while since I have participated in any activity of a CC.

    ReplyDelete
  51. This sure is a fun activity and socially relevant. :)

  63. oceanskies,
Every CC organises activities and courses for its residents. In recent years, some of the courses are seen as hip, interesting, fun and keeps up to date with the market trends. Some of the activities are heavily subsidised.

If I had the time, I would like to participate in the events and take up more courses at the CC.

    ReplyDelete
  64. marcia,
Yes, I did try my hand at wrapping the tiny rice dumplings. :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. nabeel,
