Tattooed 4D Fish - Wordless Wednesday
Some people in Singapore seem to think that keeping certain fish brings prosperity. Qian Hu Fish Farm imported many Molly fish from Thailand. Each fish has a single-digit number (ranging from 0 to 9) tattooed on their white bodies. Why? Punters who want winning numbers for the 4D lottery are snapping them up!
Before the fishes are tattooed, they are sedated so they will not feel any pain. The process for tattooing fish was not much different from tattooing a human being. Needles are used to insert pigments into the skin.
Each 4D fish costs S$3.00 (around US$2.15). A regular Molly fish only costs S$2.00 (around US$1.45). The tattoos last for 3 to 4 months.
Is tattooing a fish a necessary procedure? Why hurt other living things just for quick monetary gains?

Doreen,
ReplyDeleteYep... people will do anything for money. Scary hor. More sick people these days.
jams,
ReplyDeleteI will never buy a tattooed fish or animal too! Businessmen are coming up with all sorts of ideas to humour the silly superstitions of some people. It's irresponsible.
What a pain in the butt! Seems like a lot more work than it's worth!!! Can you imagine telling someone 'I tattoo fish for a living'?
ReplyDeleteThis is an eye opener to me... really interesting :)

ReplyDeleteerr.. i never know got such thing geh? First time I see this :)
ReplyDeletePity the poor fishes..
Hi ECL -- Happy WW!
ReplyDeleteI'd pick the one with the butterfly in the top picture for my good luck.
If I played the lottery and had the one with eight (8) for sure I would have as many eights in my number choice as I could.
88 is my lucky number, our racing car was number 88.
Yes, on any given day there might be several kimonos in the park. Houston is very cosmopolitan, white caucasians make up majority, in the low 50 percents, and in a few years they (we) will be in the minority.
..
Tattooed fish?
ReplyDeleteI thought you were pulling my leg, but you are serious, no?
It is a little bit insane, but then again, some things in Asia are a little bit unreal ;)
:D

ReplyDeleteThey are so pretty and so helpless...
ReplyDeleteI've kept tropical fish on and off over the years and this sort of thing still sickens me. If they aren't tattooing the fish they are injecting them with dyes to make them pretty colours! :(
ReplyDeleteJust like ettey, I've never seen a tatooed fish nor have I've heard of it before. Just now. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteSex scandal is a tragedy for Eliot Spitzer and his family. However, it is an opportunity for remarkable history to be made in the United States.

Tattooed Fish? You have to be kidding! Wonder if it works for the lottery.
ReplyDeleteTattooing fish... Now that's a job.
ReplyDelete"What does your dad do for a living?"
"Eh, well, he does tattoo for f...he's an astronaut!"
Nice post, have a great WW day!
Come see mine for today. It's bad for the eyes!
My goodness I never heard that ! what a work !! Isn't it easier to put a numbered collar around their neck, lol ?
ReplyDeletewell I suppose it is okay... as long as they don't start piercing their ears. ha ha ha.
ReplyDeletesorry.. couldn't help myself.
You know, I think tattoos for humans wouldn't be as popular if they only lasted 3-4mths. Then again, they might become more popular since you'd get a chance to change your design after a while.
ReplyDeletePoor fishies though.
Happy WW!
That's pretty wrong. The dye can hurt them. I hope other people read your post and hear about this.
ReplyDeleteMine is here: http://blog.mysocalledsite.com/?p=285

Thanks for stopping by Penny Lane and commenting!
Whenever you think people can't come up with something else to generate a business, fish-tattooing comes along. I have to admit, this idea would never have crossed my mind in a million years.
ReplyDeletePeople can make the choice if they want to get a tatoo - I think it's wrong to do that to a fish.
ReplyDeleteAstonishing. I've never seen such a thing. So sad.
ReplyDeleteThanks for teaching us something new!
Fascinating post. The pictures were nifty and the info was very interesting. I didnt know you could tatto a fish... learn something new everyday.
