Bangkok blasts!

When I returned from my New Year celebrations, I saw the horrific news on TV. 9 bombs went off in Bangkok, leaving 3 people dead and more than 30 injured.

There were frantic calls to Thai friends and Singapore friends holidaying in the Thai capital. They are a little shaken and afraid to go out of their houses or hotels. Holiday makers are cutting short their holidays & scrambling to get out of Bangkok. Airline phones are busy.

OMG! What is the world coming to? Don't we have enough natural disasters and now this?

My Malaysian aunt living in Johor has her house completely submerged in flood water during the recent heavy rains. Relatives and my parents have to bring food and clothes to the family of 15 who were booked into a hotel. The house doesn't look good to be lived in anymore. They will have to rebuild it. Meanwhile we are trying to make passports for them to come stay in Singapore. But it seems difficult because they lost all their documents in the flood.

My Taiwanese student Wei Zhong and his family are still not found in the earthquake-struck city in southern Taiwan. Friends are frantically searching for them around their residence and hospitals. We are praying hard that they are alright.

While we have plenty to eat and safe from natural disasters, please think of the many brothers and sisters who are going through tough times.

  3. Blessings to you.
The world is changing and we need to change with it. My heart goes out to you and your loved ones. It is now, more than ever we NEED to trust our instincts and change the way we live in order to return to balance.
The BIRTH of the new age has already begun and these are the birthing pains that will continue. May we all survive them.

  4. We are indeed very lucky to be living in a relatively safe place like Singapore. So much so that we sometimes take this for granted.

I hope your Taiwanese student and his family are safe.

  6. I have a dear Thai friend (now in Canada), so have been watching the news. Thought of you too, which is silly since you're no where near there. (I guess distances seem less viewed from half way around the world.)

    Stay safe and well.

  7. My family and I were there at Bangkok at the exact time when the bombings occurred. The strange thing was that it didn't seem like such a big deal, even amongst the Thais. Everybody was still very placid and calm, and there wasn't public announcements for everybody to stay home. The party still went on and people cheered with fireworks as 2007 dawned on Siam.
Have a look at my post:
