Marine Parade SG50 National Day Celebrations
Together with several of my neighbours, we attended our constituency's annual National Day dinner last night. This year we are celebrating our nation's 50th birthday, so the event was held at a 5-star hotel.
As we are holding our General Election this year, the residents of Marine Parade are concerned whether our MP, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong would continue to stand for election. He is already 74 years old and has been an MP for 40 years.
Well, good news for the residents.
MP Edwin Tong who will be standing for election in Joo Chiat ward, went to each table to meet the residents. MP Lim Biow Chuan came to our table and we requested for a group photo.
The dishes served at this dinner were local food such as chicken bak kut teh, chicken rice, rojak, fried Hokkien prawn noodles, chilli crab etc. My personal opinion : none of the dishes were appetising.
But I sincerely thank the generous sponsors who made this dinner possible at a 5-star hotel. Each ticket is sold at S$40 only.
Earlier on 2 August, a celebratory parade was held at Marine Parade with a spectacular fireworks at the finale.
A resident of Marine Parade, it was so difficult for me to get a ticket to this event initially. Both my husband and I tried for more than two weeks, even making trips down to the community centre and residents' centre. Calls were unanswered and messages not returned. Finally, after going through much ding-donging, we managed to buy two tickets. We are just glad to celebrate Singapore's 50th National Day with our neighbours.
Happy 50th birthday, Singapore!

DeleteHappy belated birthday to your country. As much as it pains me to say it, it seems like Singapore has matured quite a bit more than Malaysia since their separation... :S
ReplyDeleteMalaysia will eventually catch up. It has lots of natural resources.
