Dong Po Colonial Cafe

Hubby and I chanced upon this nostalgic cafe while taking photos at Kampong Glam this morning. Walking into the vintage bakery-cafe, I was awed by the posters of cheong-sum clad ladies on its wall and the awesome antique knick-knacks displayed in its custom-made tables..

As I was going through the wide selection of home-made cakes and pastries in the display shelf, I was so glad to see some comfort food that I used to eat from my childhood days. I saw "cream horns" on their menu and wanted to try them but they are only available in the afternoon. Oh well, I will have to come back for them :)

Although I have eaten breakfast and felt very full, I was tempted into ordering its scones and teh-si (tea with evaporated milk). :P

Friendly owner Kelvin Soh served us. Through our chit chat, we learnt that the former graphic designer left his job to start Dong Po Colonial Cafe. Kelvin's father Albert, through feedback from customers, has improved on the old family recipes passed down from a great-grand uncle who had been trained in the 1950s by the Western bakers who ran GH Cafe.

Sipping my tea in this cafe, it's like going back in time to the 50s with Zhou Xuan's  (周璇) songs playing in the background. :)

I bought some pastries and a couple of home-made fruit jams for my Mum. I will come back for my cream horns soon :)
