World's Largest Baby, Planet@ Gardens By The Bay - PhotoHunt

PhotoHunt theme : In a park/ Wither

Meet the world's largest baby! For this week's PhotoHunt theme, I went down to Gardens by the Bay to photograph “Planet”,  the giant sculpture of a 7-month old sleeping baby by British artist Marc Quinn. :)

Donated by Mr Putra Masagung, this 7 ton (383 cm by 353 cm by 926 cm) bronze cast sculpture which is a depiction of the artist's infant son Lucas, appears to float above the ground. It is one of over 40 artworks nestled among the horticultural splendour of Gardens by the Bay. It is now a prominent landmark to the Gardens' new city gateway.

You can see Planet at the Meadow, near the Colonial Garden. Against the backdrop of the city skyline, the blue sky and white clouds, the baby appears to be floating in the air.

We are experiencing hazy skies over Singapore and a burning smell in the air because of our Indonesia neighbour's forests burning in Sumatra.

I pray for rain during the weekend to wash away the pollution caused by the haze and that some of the withered plants during this traditional dry period could get some much needed moisture.

  3. Oh dear re it being that time of the year for Singapore (and Malaysia): i.e., when haze from Indonesia "visits".

Especially in view of this, must say that you really did get some great shots in the park that day!

    1. Yes, it's that time of the year again. For my friends' toddlers who have breathing difficulties, they have to be kept indoors. :(

There were less visitors due to the haze. Happy that I could get these good shots.

I hope to visit SG one day and see the Gardens by the Bay. I watched a NatGeo show about how it was built. Very interesting.

    1. I watched that NatGeo documentary too. Do come visit, Gardens By the Bay will not disappoint. Even Prince William and Princess Kate love it when they came visiting in 2012. :)

    1. I love this sculpture too. I spent some time taking shots of it from all angles. This floating baby sculpture leaves me wondering how it is able to 'float' on mid air when it weighs 7 ton.

  11. Hi ECL, that sculpture really does look like it's floating on air. Very cool and creative. We get a lot of smog in LA and a bit of rain does a great job of clearing that smog away and clearing things up nicely.

Hope you get some rain soon to clear up your haze and give you a beautiful weekend.

  16. Sorry I didn't get a chance to stop over during photo-hunt....I bet with all those skyscapper it would be nice to just go barefoot on the grass.
