Shopping at the revamped Chinatown Point with my girlfriends last Saturday, we squealed with delight upon discovering this shop selling snippets of our childhood memories.
The neatly stacked tins of biscuits in the shop reminded us of the provision shops back in the 60s and 70s. I was ecstatic to find some of my favourite biscuits that I have been craving for.

Remember these biscuits decorated with colourful icing? As young children, my cousins, brothers and I love snacking on them. We could buy a handful for 10-cents from the only village provision shop.
First we licked off the icing before popping the biscuits into our mouths or dunking them into a cup of hot Milo. Ha!

There were too many yummy snacks to choose from, we bought lots of sweet and sour titbits. :D
Erasers : flags of countries
Besides sweets, there were some interesting toys and stuff of yesteryear for sale. My classmates and I used to play a game with these erasers when we want to exchange for the flags of countries I didn't own.
Classic children's card games : Old Maid, Happy Family, Snap and Donkey
I bought the above children's cards games for my nieces. My nephews received colourful paper balls that they have to blow-up and a Animal Kingdom Chess Set.
What a fun and interesting shop, I will have to bring the children here for a visit soon.
We have a small Chinese community in Brussels and one street full of shops with Chinese food and other stuff. Of course not to compare to the one in London !
ReplyDeleteGlad to know that there is a Chinese community in Brussels. I wonder what Chinese food is sold in Brussels.
DeleteHere in South Africa we have a few Chinese, I've never had Chinese food but I'm curious
ReplyDeleteChinese people are found in almost every country, they are quite an adventurous race. :)
DeleteI hope you could try our yummy Chinese food one day.
It looks like you had fun revisiting some of the items from your childhood. There is a store here in Tulsa that sells candy and toys from my childhood. It is just best that I stay away. I like the candy too much.
ReplyDeleteI would love to know what candy and toys are from your childhood. They are probably quite different from what we had.
DeleteI just had the biscuits a few days back, my fave la! :)
ReplyDeleteHi 5! You too like this biscuit.
DeleteAnd I know the different colours all taste the same but still nice to have a fave.. mine is pink! :)
ReplyDeleteMine is pink too. I used to pick only the pink ones to eat.
DeleteI remember the country erasers too, it was so cool to have one back in school last time! :)
ReplyDeleteMy brother and I owned quite a lot of them. We spent our pocket money collecting these precious erasers and couldn't bear to use them.
DeleteMy son also collected them when he was in Primary school. I believe some students are still collecting them now.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane! :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome, our childhood memories are quite similar hor. :)
DeleteWow... these bring back some really cool memories of my childhood too! i used to munch and munch those biscuits with icing toppings non-stop.
ReplyDeleteLooks like these biscuits are popular with kids during our time. These days, there are too many snacks to choose from.
DeleteI love discovering shops that sell sweets from my childhood which are easily found anymore.
ReplyDeleteGoodness~how come your childhood memories are almost the same as mine? :p
ReplyDeleteI will always remember the rubber. :D I was dominating a lot of people with my rubber back then.
ReplyDeleteglad that they are still around and that you could enjoy them at the same time reminisce about all the joys you had eating them when you were a kid.

Oh what fun. To have it all be the same as when you were younger, to be able to remember the days gone by and think of your youth!!
ReplyDeleteI also love such nostalgic shoppes, and am always fascinated by trips to China town in San Francisco. I'm happy to see those simple games are still popular with kids.
ReplyDeleteAh a walk down memory lane..how awesome when you can find treats and pleasures from your past! some of the sweets I liked as a child are still around..but they certainly aren't the 3 for a penny like they use to be...and they are smaller....Happy Thursday to you!
