Welcome Prince William and Catherine to Singapore!!
On Tuesday, Prince William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, arrived in Singapore as part of a tour marking the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The royal couple's first stop was the Singapore Botanic Gardens to view the "Dendrobium Memoria Princess Diana", an orchid named in honour of the Duke's late mother, and the "Dendrobium Queen Elizabeth II".
In honour of their visit, the "Vanda William Catherine" - a free-flowering orchid hybrid that is white and purple in colour - was named after them.
Crowds of spectators lined the streets waving British flags, self-made banners and cheered the arrival of the royal couple wherever they went.

Queenstown gave a fond and warm welcome to Their Royal Highnesses. Accompanied by MPs Indranee Rajah and Chia Shi Lu, the visit began with a Lion Dance, then a Kampong performance and finally a piece by Indian musicians. MP Chia Shi Lu was heard explaining to the Duchess of Cambridge about these multi-ethnic musical welcome traditions.
Queen Elizabeth II made state visits to Singapore in the years 1972, 1989 and 2006. This public housing estate that Prince William and Catherine visited was named Queenstown in honor of her coronation in 1953.

Prince William and Catherine were hosted to a state dinner by President Tony Tan and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana.
There the Duke inspected the guard of honour and commended Singapore on its economic success and athletic achievements at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London.
We are excited, and delighted to be here. This wonderful occasion is all the more
memorable because our visit is undertaken on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen,
in celebration of her Diamond Jubilee. Before we left London, my Grandmother
told me how very warmly she remembers her three State Visits
to this remarkable Country in 1972, 1989 and 2006;
and she told me how much we would enjoy seeing Singapore,
and meeting Singaporeans. How right she was.
Mr. President, Her Majesty sends you, your wife, the Government, and all the people of Singapore, her very best wishes.

On the second day, the royal couple visited Gardens By the Bay. The crowds had gathered as early as eight in the morning to see their idols. They went crazy and cheered loudly when Prince William and Catherine stopped at the Supertree Grove to greet the public.

After Gardens By the Bay, the royal couple visited the new Rolls-Royce factory, where they officially unveiled its first operational engine. The factory aims to produce 250 engines a year for aircraft that include the A380 and create 500 new jobs.

ReplyDeleteAnd I always wondered, how on earth do they not spill a single drop of sweat in our hot and sweltering country xD
ReplyDeleteI heard about it on the radio, all the screams and cheers. Must have been a wonderful sight being able to see them up close, although I can imagine the chaotic moments at places they both visited in Singapore.
They are such a nice and sympathic couple ! It's such a shame that lately they became victims of unscroupolous paparazzi !
