I was on a bus rushing to meet an overseas friend when I saw this banner outside Orchard Road Presbyterian Church. I absolutely have to go near to take a shot. :P
God has a Facebook! Cool, huh!?
If God has a Facebook, would you poke him? :P
A gruesome murder happened within this Orchard Road Presbyterian Church. It was popularly known as the "Curry Murder".
Mr Ayakannu Marithamuthu, a father of three who worked as a live-in caretaker of holiday chalets in Changi, was murdered on 12 December 1984 at this Orchard Road Presbyterian Church. His body was then chopped up into pieces and cooked into a curry in a large aluminum pot. The cooked parts were later packed in different plastic bags and disposed all over the island to allay suspicions.
Initially, Ayakannu's wife and her brothers were charged in 1987 with murder. They were hovering near Death because they could be hanged for murder. However, as there was insufficient evidence against them, they were acquitted of their charges the same year.
Apart from what investigations revealed, the prosecution was unable to prove that it was indeed the family members who caused Ayakannu's death. The cooking pot in which Ayakannu's body parts were allegedly cooked could not be found, leaving no traces of the savage act.
Not many churches have a murder story in their history though. :)

That's a cool banner. Creative!
I'm more worried/excited if God pokes us! Will it be like a lightning bolt? Or will it be more akin to a gentle breeze? =]

Ian,
ReplyDeleteHey, it didn't cross my mind that God would poke me. :P
Please don't send a lightning bolt!
Oh dear 'curry murder' and Bananaz loves curry! Probably the murderer learned it from the HongKong 'human pao' murder.

Makes me laugh to think about God having a Facebook page. Sad that a murder happened in that church.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you!
That FB picture is EPIC!! Interesting murder story. I'm not a big fan of curry either. Whew!! ;)
ReplyDeleteGod always wants to connect with us all the time. The problem is with some who have been too busy including God in their busy schedules. God is just waiting for us to include Him in our list of friends. He's just waiting for us to start a chat with Him or even poke Him.
ReplyDeleteSuch a very interesting church history.
BTW, thanks for dropping off a comment at my SG post at LAINY'S MUSINGS. You do have a beautiful country and I would so love to come back there one day.
May you enjoy your Sunday with your family and with God.
Hugs!
