Staying Amidst Padi Fields in Bali

Our tiny villa

5.10 am.... we were awakened by the crows of a cock. Cock!? I sat up in bed, throwing the bedcovers aside and walking barefooted, when I unlatched my room door.... was welcomed by this sight.

The farmers waved to me and greeted me good morning. Amazing! We were sleeping in the middle of padi fields! Well..., not really. Our boutique hotel was located next to padi fields.

Pretty cool, isn't it? Uniquely set amid padi fields, it offers tranquility and relaxation with a distinctive and authentic local Balinese touch. Quite an experience for city folks like us.

The damned cocks that woke us up at 5am!

We can sit or lay down at this pavilion and watched the farmers work in their padi field. The exotic hotel is surrounded by tropical garden with panorama view of rice fields.

Planting rice is never fun,
Bent from morn till set of sun.
Cannot stand and cannot sit,
Cannot rest a little bit.

Remembering the nursery rhyme from my kindergarten days, I was raring to go join the farmer working in his field but we have a full day ahead. Instead we chose to eat our breakfast at the dining area located on the second floor of the main building and watched the farmers as they plant their padi.

  1. The place looks so beautiful and serene! I should stay there on my next trip, usually I stayed around Kuta beach as I prefer beach resort.

  2. What a beautful view indeed! I like the idea of being woken up by the sweet sounds of cock-a-doodle-doo. The nursery rhyme aptly epitomises the hard life of the farmers.

  3. Love the villa. And how green the area is.

Are the rates expensive to stay there?

  7. Jama,
Yes, it is a quaint boutique resort and tranquil enough for a relaxing holiday. Wish I had time to laze on the pavilion, enjoying a glass of iced cold drink and watch the village life around me.

I stayed 2 nights in Kuta beach.

  8. stanley,
sweet sounds of cocka-a-doodle-doo!? Not when you sleep at 12 in the morning and be woken at 5.10 am!! That's not sweet! We wanted to kill that cock! :D

  9. Lina,
We were 'slaughtered' because we didn't book in advance. As walked-in customers at the airport counter, we paid a premium. :(

    It's about S$80 for a night during off-peak.

  11. Tekkaus,
There were 23 villas altogether. Each one of them different style and design. I didn't have a choice as this is the only one available when I checked in.

  15. Lovely rite? We've got vast expanses of rice fields back in my hometown, but we normally take it for granted. Only those who're from the cities and faraway states gasp at the scenery whenever they visit our state. :P

  21. 5:00 a.m. is pretty early to be getting up on vacation, but maybe that's a good thing. More time to enjoy the beauty of your surroundings.
