Fancy a bowl of Jiggly Pig Brain Soup? - PH

PhotoHunt theme : Jiggly

Pig Brain Soup

I brought an overseas visitor to a hawker center to try our local food. He was fascinated with a stall selling pig organ soup. Being adventurous, he tried its stir-fried pig liver, braised intestines, tongue and pig blood salad. He was lucky there was the rare Pig Brain Soup that day. :p

I remember when I was studying for important exams during my school days, my Mom would cook me Pig Brain Soup and forced me to eat it. The Chinese believe it promotes blood flow to enliven the brain; and to improve memory. Eating pig's brain can make one's brain better?

How does this jiggly pig brain taste? It has an incredibly awful taste ..... like the taste of raw eggs, but tastes many times worse. Yucky.

The bowl of Pig Brain Soup is not cheap hor.

As for the jiggly Pig Blood Cubes....... I dare not eat it as I was told by a Buddhist friend that anyone who 'takes (eat/ drink /kill) the blood' of another living thing will never be reincarnated.  *shivers*

  9. My sister used to like pig's brain in congee but not plain...it's seasoned with special vinegar and all. I never really liked it though. I think because it's made in a special way that's why the taste was good (even others like it just me).

    happy weekend!

  11. Actually, we always perceive pigs to be stupid.

On the contrary, these animals are really highly intelligent animals.

  12. Ooops, I never know about the pig blood cubes and what your Buddhist friend had said. I was fed Pig Blood cubes when I was younger, and they tasted quite nice....better than pig brain.

  28. My maternal grandmother once cooked pig brains for us to eat. Perhaps it was due to her cooking style, I don't find it that geli. LOL.

  30. I just love your food traditions and habits, but then again; I'm your Viking friend from Norway :-)

To me it sounds delicious and even if we prepare it a bit different, we eat pretty much the same. Blood pudding was one of my faves from my childhood.

Btw: I am sooooo excited about your last comment and Diane says you can borrow me to keep you warm when you get to visit us - more details in a note to you ;-)
