This nautical gift was given to my son by a Vice-President of a Shanghai hospital. I had brought my young son to consult this doctor. She grew fond of my jovial kid. :)
A year later she sent her teenaged daughter to study in Singapore and I was her guardian for 6 years. Although her daughter has left to study in Australia, we still maintain contact.
The Chinese characters 一帆风顺 means Bon voyage and usually translated as meaning "have a good trip".
This silver handicraft of a ship was another nautical gift from an Indonesian father. He was in Solo and bought this specially for me.
The craftsmen are still using traditional equipment to create such beautiful pieces of art. It has intricate details. This art piece is firm and strong because it is made from a combination of silver and copper.

I've also met many parents of former students who r forever grateful for your care and concern over their children and some are very generous. I guess apart from their extrinsic values, I also see these "gifts" as symbols of a good job well done! U must make a terribly (haha) great mama=guardian!
ReplyDeletePlanning to rent out my guest room at my Toa Payoh pad. If u know of any trustworthy individuals, give me a jingle.
