Love - RT

These milk pots contain love.

The two days I was covering the Thaipusam Festival, I discover a very strong message.

Love

The Love devotees have for their family and their God is so strong, they are able to withstand the extreme physical pain.

He has supportive family members....

The main participants - no matter if they are young, old, burly or skinny - they were not ordinary men. And all because of LOVE.

A father offered thanksgiving year after year by carrying a kavadi for more than 20 years. He has a close-knitted, supportive family. His sons continued with the tradition. You see unconditional love when they rally around one another, walking side by side for 4 km bare-footed in the hot sun, faces beaming with joy.

This family came together to carry milk pots, supporting one another throughout the 4 km trek.

This coming Valentine's Day, I think it is time to focus on a lot more love in this world. Valentine's Day need not be the exclusive realm of couples – it can be an expression of kinship, friendship and platonic love. It is a day of inclusion and an opportunity to recognise all we have in our lives. Let's spread our love. - Lilly's life -

Yuan Xiao Jie is also the Chinese Valentine Day! I deserve a beating for I only remember this fact while I am typing my blog and chatting with my Dear over the MSN. I would have brought her to see the Brightest moon in 52 years on this special date!

  9. Thanks for the link. I appreciate the care and concern more than the link since I don't need traffic.

Thank you for this post. I did not realise the message of love until I have read your post.

You have covered the festival better than I did by the extent of information you have gotten. The love the devotees have is indeed very strong.

  10. So lomantic!

ECL, would you like to join my fight against puppymills?

The poor dogs need our help!

(ok, that was anti-climax for your lomantic date)

  20. oceanskies,
    You're welcome.

As I walked with the devotees, I saw family members taking care of one another. Young people supporting their elderly parents, grandparents or relatives; helping one another to take care of their young children.

Several treat it as an outing for the whole family clans. It's great to see the harmony and togetherness at this festival.

I'm waiting to read your posts. :)

  26. The power of love for family members. It never fails to amaze me of the endurance of the weight and pain of those things they carry on their entire body.

Happy St Valentine's day to your family and you!! :)

They are amazing! You see them dancing and singing as they walked bare-footed for 4 km, with metal spikes piercing every inch of their flesh. They are super men!

  35. what a tradition. not the usual and i really like to experience traditions like this. you get to appreciate humanity in one perspective.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I believe in every race, there are traditions that families uphold. And some of these traditions pass down from father to son. I've seen that here in the Philippines, particularly with some of the religious traditions held every year.

I will help spread the love! Count me in, ECL! :)

  37. I truly admire the devotees for their fearless courage and devotions to Lord Muruga.

thanks for including me in your circle of bloggers.
