These Go in your Butt - WW

During colonoscopy, a gastroenterologist uses a colonoscope to look inside the colon.

The colonoscope is a long, thin, flexible tube with a tiny video camera and a light on the end. By adjusting the various controls on the colonoscope, the gastroenterologist can carefully guide the instrument in any direction to look at the inside of the colon. The high-quality picture from the colonoscope is shown on a TV monitor, and gives a clear, detailed view.

Colonoscopy is also a safe and effective way to evaluate problems such as:

  • Blood loss.
  • Abdominal or rectal pain.
  • Changes in bowel habits, such as chronic diarrhoea.
  • Abnormalities that may have first been detected by other studies, such as an inflamed colon noted on a CT scan of the abdomen.
  • Active bleeding from the large bowel.

I couldn't help publishing this JOKE! ^-^

That photo of you with that stiff index finger reminds me of the visit to the oncologist at the NUH a few years back to check on my piles. The procedure involved poking his finger into my rectum to feel the piles. It was a painful experience in spite of the doctor's soothing my fears.

  10. stanley,
Most doctors try to assure patients before examinations that it will not hurt but usually the patients would feel pain.

Why do patients feel the pain?
It's not supposed to hurt, the doctors are too rough? :P

It's not the doctors' flesh so they don't care? ish.

I wanted very much to marry a surgeon, but whenever I think of where his index finger went, I give up!! wahahaha....

    ReplyDelete
  11. When I saw your title I thought of _butt! LOL.

I can't bear to think about how it feels...

  12. "I wanted very much to marry a surgeon, but whenever I think of where his index finger went, I give up!! wahahaha...."

Ahemm... !! I still polish off banana-leaf rice with my right hand la!

"Most doctors try to assure patients before examinations that it will not hurt but usually the patients would feel pain."

    BTW, rectal exams really shouldn't be painful. REALLY... B E L I E V E M E ... *hypnotizing ECL*

If there's something that could make it painful, such as a blood clot or pus under the skin or "cracked lips" at the anus, the examination should be postponed to another time (pay consultation again) ;-)

  13. day dreamer,
    haha... your _butt jie!

    Don't even think .... painzzzz!

  14. Dr Bernard!!!

Didn't you see me drop my pincer!? hehe...

Yahhhh.... if I believe you, I would have married a surgeon! *covers eyes and ears*

Probably that's why I got the pain, I didn't want to pay for another consultation!! wahahahah....

Both. Yes, it is painful. :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. the Dong,
For the colonoscopy, it is general anaesthesia.
For finger examination, the doctor just use a lubricant.

    ReplyDelete
  22. HA HA HA!!! Aiyo.... is that poor Jaymes your victim there? He he he, so sporting la Jaymes! :):):)

  29. The first shot is interesting, the second one is very funny. Thanks for your kind comments on my blog and I am sorry Jaymes is going through so much with his health. It's always harder when it's our children with health problems. Take care, Carver

    ReplyDelete
  30. Carver,
Thanks for your encouragement and kind concern. It's really tough to see my young boy go through lab tests after lab tests. I need to keep my sanity sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I personally don't have a fancy for such examination and investigation procedures.... :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. I hope I do not need this exam anytime soon. Great post

    ReplyDelete
  33. I've gone thru this process once many years back but it was not much discomfort as I was half sedated.. compared to drinking drums and drums of water to clear the gut before the colonscopy....

    ReplyDelete
  34. wow.. ECL, really talking and educating like a surgeon. Dr Bernard's new tou tai ah??
He can now rest d. passed the task to the new surgeon, Dr ECL :-)

  40. Hi ECL, I did one of those three months ago.
Almost everything good, but the doc took me off peanuts and other seeds. Seems he found I had diverticulosis.

Happy WW, thank you for peeking at my 'dog on the roof.'

  41. Judging by the equipment used in a colonoscopy, I'm glad the anesthetic put me out for the duration of the procedure...

    ReplyDelete
  42. eh...I've had that done b4 k. Never will I wan such an invasive surgery performed on me ever. Ya...used to have IBS. now I'm FREE!!! :P

    ReplyDelete
  43. oceanskies,
Nobody has a choice. Once you get older, you would need such examinations regularly. We might do it once a year, imagine the poor doctors doing it on X number of patients everyday!! *shudders*

    ReplyDelete
  44. Tommy V,
Yep... but do go for regular check-ups when you past 40. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sweet Jasmine,
I had mine last year and yes it was horrible drinking the huge amount of prescribed beverage.
I was fully sedated, it took only half an hour.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Belinda,
    Gosh. *embarrass*

No lah, trying to share what I learnt at the Colon Cancer fair.

I dare not take over Dr Bernard's job. :P

  47. Raven,
haha... thanks. Keeping yourself happy also keeps the doctor away. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Princess,
Well, I hope never to do it again too but I've become more concern and responsible for my health. I'll go for regular check-ups no matter how yucky they are.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Janice,
You have a choice but it is good to go for annual check-ups.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Jim,
That was a recent test. Diverticulosis is common in folks over 40, you need to take in more fibre. I'm also trying to change my eating habits. Tough but trying.... have to. :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ralph,
I had the same feeling too when I saw this equipment at the fair. hehe....

    ReplyDelete
  54. sho,

I am a nurse so this thing is not new to me :)

    Happy Wednesday!

  63. Nice post on colonoscopy. I underwent that some years back and still kept the recording of it. I hated to drink the laxatives the doctor asked me to drink the night before my colonoscopy - 3 big bottles and I almost vomited! The taste was terrible!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Maybe your butt EC, not coming near my butt with that thing!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Eeeww! that looks really scary right? I mean, that thingy goes inside and roam inside the body and everywhere in the colon? wow! anyway, thanks to modern technology, all these are possible now. I don't remember anyone going for an operation and saying, "oh, if you want to see how the op went through, I have the DVD of the whole thing!" LOL Now, that's possible too! very good but in today's world, there's more complicated diseases too.

    ReplyDelete
  66. oh, I just noticed you changed your header- I love it! pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Things you really do not want to see, but funny! Happy WW!

  72. foongpc,
I had it too and the night before the colonoscopy was Hell! I was so exhausted after all the trips to the toilet. Yep, the drink was awful.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Tom,
Go for a check up. They might not find anything but you would sleep better. :P
    I had mine done.

    ReplyDelete
