Go Green on Earth Day 2008 - Weekend Snapshot #20

I was at a mall and there was an exhibition teaching kids the ways to go Green. They were having fun making eco-friendly crafts and taking part in various activities.

A contest was held to find the best designed recycle bag.

Global warming is our most urgent environmental problem. Earth Day is a special day to learn about our planet and how to take care of it! It is celebrated on April 22 annually by many countries around the world.

To celebrate Earth Day in Singapore, more than 10 companies, schools and organisations will pitch in to plant some 790 trees in various parks, nature reserves and park connectors across the island.

People all over the world know that there are problems we need to work on and this is our special day to look at the planet and see what needs changing. Our planet needs a little TLC.

Reuse. Reduce. Recycle.

  3. This is a good step towards saving the earth....just the other day i had a part in this type of campaign over here at one of my shopping spree and i actually refuse to accept a plastic bag for a comb i bought....i put it into my cotton bag which i carried with me.....small actions like that could do a great deal to help save the earth....for our future generations to come....

  5. sweet jasmine,
Way to go!! I try to bring my own recycle bags when I go shopping. What we not seem much but a little goes a long way. I'm also worried for our future generations if we waste our resources now.

  6. Dong,
We do whatever we can. For every tree man destroys, we should replace them.

  7. That's great that there are so many activities this weekend about earth day. I noticed where I live that there were a lot of community events for Children on Saturday relating to earth day. I hope there will be earth day related events in the schools on Tuesday. Good post for the weekend before Earth Day.

  10. This is an ooops PS to my comment. I realized after I mentioned Tuesday as earth day that International Earth day is actually today. The U.S. Earth Day is Tuesday, March 22, which is why I'm hoping the schools in the U.S., where I live, will have special activities then. However, I should have realized that International Earth Day is today. So Happy International Earth Day Eastcoastlife!

  13. Way to go promoting caring for our world! I remember when this was seen as a freaky, outlandish way to be. But now we face the demise of the honey bee and a lack of water and other woes. It's good for kids to appreciate the wonders of the Earth.

    God bless.

  19. Grocery store near us have been promoting green products and I think it's great. It's also great to know that there are lots of activities about Earth Day. I'm sure too that using 3R's in Singapore won't be that hard for everyone since you are the cleanest country in the world and you followed the rules seriously.

  20. It's good to see Singapore getting greener and greener. All of these efforts are for the future generations and I think it should be emphasised in our daily life.

Hopefully, when we come back to Singapore again, we will see more recycleable items being managed in a proper way.

  26. It's good that they're bringing this awareness to the kids. Things have to start right from the early age to ensure good results.

  27. Such an educational weekend event.
I remember graduating from my elementary school, one requirement was to plant trees by making sure we have 100 seedlings being put out there in the forest.
    Very nice pictures!

  35. Eastcoastlife: I think I would still to be more proactive in going green. Maybe one way I could do so is to eat less meat.

By the way, I think I saw someone who looks like you on TV just tonight, interviewed by Channel 8 regarding your views of the ministerial statement regarding Mas Selamat’s escape.
