Photohunt - Messy

I used to host foreign students in my house. Rarely are they well-behaved and well-brought up. Most are ill-bred. I don't know how those parents bring up their kids or what their schools teach. Even some adults, some are parents of my students, who had stayed with me aren't any better. I see red whenever they left their mess for me to clear.

My house is not a hotel. I would expect people to have the decency and consideration that their host family lives in it. I would often find food scraps, food wrappers and unfinished beverages left in my wardrobe or under the beds..... I even found peanut shells and empty snack bags under the mattresses or stuffed into the folds of my sofa!

We would have to spend days cleaning and scrubbing and disinfecting. There would be ants and cockroaches. We don't eat in our bedrooms. I'm surprised other people do. What's a dining room for?

Below are some pictures of messy bedrooms of girls, can you imagine how the boys' rooms look like?

Messy bedroom of Indonesian girls.....

Filthy and messy bathroom of Filipino girls.....

Messy bedroom with damaged items.....

Unwanted junk left behind for me to throw......

  2. I am good at kicking and messing the covers, pillows and sheets so your beds are not as bad as the ones I mess up in hotel rooms. Good thing I don't have to make those beds.

If you have a chance, I welcome you to visit the mess on my floor.

    Happy New Year.

  3. That would be upsetting. It's one thing to be messy in your own home (me in mine, ha) but that's so rude for a guest to be messy in a host home. That reflects so badly on them and I'm sure the behavior makes people reluctant to host students.

I always enjoy your posts, your humor, and your honesty. This was perfect for messy. I didn't expect a serious post for messy but now that I think of it, the theme lends its self to a serious look.

I hope you and your family have a happy new year.

  5. Consideration for others is a dying trait. Happy new year to you and yours!

  7. Don't worry that seems to be an international problem and has nothing to do with education. And the girls are sometimes even worse then the boys ! When my son comes, in not even a minute the room looks like a trash mountain and it is certainly not due to my education, lol ! You should see some houses in England there I really wondered how people could live in such a mess. The rooms you show look nice against some I have seen !

  8. hey, I'm a Filipina, but I'm not that messy! LOL
yeah, they should really keep their things in order when staying in other people's houses ... even if they pay for it, or not!

    Happy New Year!

  9. I'm with Ellen; this actually looks pretty neat compared to some rooms I've seen.
And I grew up in a house that did not HAVE a dining room. We ate while sitting in front of the TV, and it was not a problem to eat a bedtime snack in our bedrooms.
I agree that your host students should know what your particular rules are, and if those rules differ from what they're used to at home, they should follow yours.

  11. They have this thing in USA called a switch. It is similar to the Singapore Cane.

    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switch_%28rod%29

My dad had a switch and it was useful in keeping our behavior and deportment in check.

Try it. It solves every household problem...

  13. Yes, young men. There is nothing as messy as they are--at least not that I've seen in the houses where they live. Imagine what they do to those they don't have to come back to!

I have to say you have made my hardships seem almost small by comparison.

    ReplyDelete
  14. do you still do that? I think it would make me not want to host much longer.

  15. You know people just can't stop being a bit dirty. What's not theirs, they don't really mind having it dirty. But.. when it's their compound, they keep it clean and slick

  19. perhaps you should have told them them to clean before leaving otherwise, their rooms will be padlocked! :)

sometimes if it's a one bathroom-cum-toilet affair for two girls or more, this happens.

perhaps you can add racks for soap dishes, toothbrush holder and other toiletries there. if they can't put it back properly warn them. :)

sometimes it all boils down to being considerate. i hope they're not like that all the time. that could be pain in the butt.

by the way, like Maiylah, i am Filipina. if these girls can go to Singapore to study, perhaps they have money at home. tell them to bring their maids. :)

    happy new year!

  30. Messy bedrooms seem to be a problem everywhere. We still have Tall Son at home.....we don't go in his room except to change the bed.

  31. I guess it's a small price to pay for being nice. I suppose it could have been worse. Still some of the things you described are pretty bad.

    ReplyDelete
  32. What rude guests. I have seen worse, not that I would want to see it in my home. Happy New Year!

you have a super new year ahead ! :D

  34. it's terrible for a guest to be so messy in a host's home! It's sad that these students behave this way.

  35. eastcoastlife,
Lucky you didn't see my room. My room is real messy unless I've time to clean it. haha!

But the girls' rooms you're showing is a bit messy considering girls are quite good at taking care of their rooms.

  36. eastcoast, your standards are very high...not so messy to me!

Happy New Year to you! You've been a great blogging friend. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. This is not very messy compared to others. But still, I will get mad if someone mess my place up! hehe...

May be you should make rules to force them tidy up the place, so that you don't have to clear their mess anymore!:)

Happy New Year, my dear! May your new year fill with joy, health wealth and many many students. hehe...

  38. I don't know if being messy or clean is in the genes.
But when my boys were little one was clean and the other one was messy.
Now as my messy one is getting older he is being more organize.

Thanks for stopping in and stop by anytime.

  44. Thanks for the visit. There are a lot of students living in my neighbourhood, and they tend to be very messy too, putting out garbage for collection on the wrong day, throwing litter everywhere, etc. I always expect better from so-called educated kids.

    Happy New Year!

  45. students will be students..they r probably the same withtheir mums ..if that is any consolation :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Wow. I suspect that some of the mess is a result of being away from home, some different culture, and some just plain thoughtlessness. When I was overseas I was in a youth hostel not staying with a family--if I had bneen staying with a family I would not have kept things nearly as messy as when in the youth hostel with a maid on call. And when I did stay with friends I tried to help in whatever way possible.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Wow, that is pretty messy...sorry you were left with such a mess. Have a wonderful new year!

  50. Congrats to Jaymes on his SHATEC course. Great choice, excellent actually! Good for him.

about untidiness, foahh, the mess my customers leave behind after they're through with the studios. can faint on the spot too. imagine 711 drink cups dropped behind pianos and amplifiers! argh.

  51. We call that "home training" in America and there tends to be a serious lack of it amongst young guys and girls of that age.

You may have to start giving your guests a detailed lecture about your expectations and house rules from now on and not assume that they've been taught how to respect other people's property.

Hope it gets better in the future.

P.S.: I was pleasantly surprised to learn that girls were just as messy as boys when I first went to college years ago...LOL.

  55. These photos are taken after the students have left. My maid had cleaned up quite a bit.

Most of the students come from wealthy families. They have maids to pick after them

I have House Rules in every bedroom but they don't seem to be able to read although most have completed high school.

I should have put up the photos of the boys' rooms. :(
