So... I have always wanted to know... whether Scotsmen wore anything under their kilts..... Is it a myth? I thought the freezing weather in Scotland would stop the men... Looks like I was wrong....
2nd Photo This now famous photograph was taken in Hong Kong in 1994 on the day that the Black Watch performed its last duties as Garrison before sovereignty was formally handed back to China. The photo appeared on the front page of almost every newspaper in the world, and has gone done in the annals of Regimental history... (Incidentally, the Black Watch also had the honour of being the last British regiment to leave Pakistan after independance in 1948).
eastcoastlife, Suddenly, I'm speechless for a moment. The second photo is actually not a photoshop-ed photo? Wow! The guy who's in the photo are gaining fame. Or is it the photographer? ;)
Very funny! :) And you are perfectly correct: the "traditional" way of wearing the kilt is with nothing underneath. Although some do, just for comfort's sake. :)
I've got the Scotsman song stuck in my head now...
The rector of our church is of Scottish descent and wears his kilt on St. Andrew's day...his response to people asking if he's wearing anything beneath is to give them a mischievous look, affect a brogue, and say, "Nothing under the kilt is worn. Everything's in perfect condition."
Hi Eastcoastlife, when I was in Scotland two years ago, one gentlemen told me that they don't wear anything in particular, that is the traditional way, I heard....
I have asked the same question to one of my Scottish friends. He told me that yes, originally they don't wear anything underneath but the younger ones do wear a pair of boxer shorts underneath. Sorry to disappoint you.
We do raise some very strong attractive men here in Scotland. I believe the ladies outnumber them as much as 5 to 1 in some areas so you can't have any, we're keeping them for ourselves! :)
