MENSA

Oh, I have to blog about this! A distraction from my life story but something I'm damn proud of! This is albeit shameless advertising for myself.... hahaha.

Mensa was founded at Oxford University in 1946 by Roland Berrill, a barrister, and Dr. Lancelot Ware, who later also became a barrister. The society welcomes people from every walk of life whose IQ is in the top 2% of the population, with the objective of enjoying each other's company and participating in a wide range of social and cultural activities.

The word Mensa; is Latin for table, or mind. The name stands for a round-table society, where race, colour, creed, national origin, age, politics, educational or social background are irrelevant.

In 1985, I took an IQ test organised by MENSA Singapore. Weeks later, I got my result. My IQ score is supposed to be confidential but I proudly declare it here, it is 158. Not a high score though, but I'm proud to be in the top 2% of the population.

Actually I wasn't feeling well when I was sitting for the IQ test that day. I rushed through the last 12 questions. I could have scored better.

I joined MENSA Singapore and met many high IQ members from all walks of life. There are professors, doctors, engineers, architects, housewives, students ....... etc. And many of these people are so friendly, humble and kind. I truly enjoy their company. We have a few potluck parties and gatherings and they were really fun.

Chris knew that I am a MENSA member before our marriage. What I didn't know was he was under a lot of stress, for having an intelligent girlfriend. He deserved being stressed because I wasn't really bothered about his IQ. But he secretly did a mock test and then registered for the real test when he was confident he could pass it. hahaha.... goondu.

2 weeks after our marriage, he gleefully showed me his IQ score -164. Wow! Higher than mine. So now he is fit to be married to me! Chris later told me that he was very nervous and worried while waiting for the score to arrive. He didn't intend to tell me if he failed. hahaha........

Jaymes' IQ is 170! Want to know yours? Register for the IQ test.

  7. Ha, Dr Chan
You already took the IQ test? 176 is a high score lor!

The test takes into consideration the age of the candidate.

    Take up the challenge la!

  13. Playing the double bass isn't difficult, it is the logistics that would be a bit more challenging.

By the way, I have yet to figure out if you prefer white, milk or dark chocolates?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anyway, I shall work out the logistic somehow when the time comes.

By the way, if you would like to catch me playing the double bass with the orchestra, I would be pleased to invite you over. The upcoming concert is on this coming Friday.
