Poison Ivy Nasi Lemak

After spending a good part of Labour Day exploring Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, we were tired and hungry. We drove to the nearest farm, Bollywood Veggies which has a bistro.

The weather was extremely hot, we requested for a table in the air-conditioned bistro. As it was past two o'clock in the afternoon, there were plenty of seats to choose from. A young, pretty waitress came to take our order.

Seeing the next table of six elderly ladies tucking into plates of the bistro's Weekend Special - nasi lemak (coconut flavoured steamed rice), I placed an order for one.

The nasi lemak was a pretty light blue colour because they added extracted juice from blue pea flowers. The 5 side dishes that came with the rice were 2 deep fried chicken mid wings, tapioca crisps, omelette, jackfruit curry, fried ikan bilis and peanuts. Except for the omelette and jackfruit curry, the other side dishes were yummy. The sambal chilli (available for sale in bottles) is to-die-for, tastes heavenly.

The exotic jackfruit curry was cooked with unripe jackfruit which has a meat-like taste. The curry was quite mild.

I asked for their jackfruit cake which I ate the last time I was here, but on that day their dessert special was chocolate banana cake. So I ordered that and also chilled fig tree tea and lemongrass tea.

The bistro uses fresh organic vegetables and fruits from the farm. Because the dishes contain no MSG and low salt, they taste a little bland but they are much healthier.

At the entrance of the Alfresco area, there is a push cart selling organic products such as yam, tapioca, bananas, cooking spices, potted plants and herbs as well as their well-known cakes and breads.

Since there is "No Service charge or GST" included in the total bill, they only accept "CASH" for payment. No credit cards or NETS.
