Gardens By the Bay

Gdnbay18

Despite the grey skies and light drizzle on Monday morning, my overseas guests insisted I accompany them to Gardens by the Bay. They have heard so much about this attraction that they were adamant not to miss it before departing for home the following morning.

We took the MRT to Bayfront station and walked through the underground tunnel to the garden set in the heart of our city.

Gardens by the Bay, with its 1,000,000 plants, is the number one attraction in Singapore reaching more than 20 million visitors in 3 years.

Walking on the 440-metre boardwalk along the Dragonfly Lake, we spotted some dragonflies, huge bees and rare birds. It seemed crazy to see my friends "chasing" them just to get some cool shots. haha....

They were pretty impressed with the heritage gardens that showcase Singapore's diverse history and culture.

They posed for some photos with the beautiful themed gardens as backdrops.

And they were absolutely awed by the Supertree Grove. There are 18 Supertrees with over 162,900 plants comprising more than 200 species and varieties of bromeliads, orchids, ferns and tropical flowering climbers planted on the vertical structures.

Each tree is about as tall as a 16-storey building. A 22-metres high, 128-metre long walkway called 'The OCBC Skyway' connects the Supertree Grove.

When told there is a light and sound show at night, they decided to catch the amazing performance that night.

I brought them to see “Planet”, the giant sculpture of a 7-month old sleeping baby by British artist Marc Quinn. It kept my guests wondering how in the world the giant sculpture was able to float in the air. haha....

We next bought tickets to visit the spectacular Singapore Gardens Festival 2016, which is being held at Gardens By the Bay from 23 to 31 July.
