Shaolin Kungfu performance

PhotoHunt theme : Observe children/ Go

During the Lunar New Year holidays in January, I brought my nephews to watch a performance featuring warrior monks from Shaolin Temple (central China's Henan Province). The performance was staged at the Amphitheatre, VivoCity.

The Shaolin Temple in Luoyang is known as the birthplace of kungfu. Shaolin Kungfu is one of the most prominent genres in Chinese Kungfu. Over its long history Shaolin Kungfu has developed as a unique combination of exercise, practical self-defence, self-discipline and art.

The boys didn't dare to touch the piece of glass.

From the word "Go", the amazing Shaolin warrior monks' powerful kungfu performance captivated the audience. Displaying quiet internal and external strength, every action whether it was an attack or defence, changed in an unpredictable way.

Shaolin Kungfu includes hundreds of skills and weapons. The warrior monks performed Qigong, fought one another with their fists and demonstrated the use of many types of weapons.

Brave little girl!

During the Qigong performance, a warrior monk approached the audience and invited some of them to touch a piece of glass he was holding to prove that it was real. Many of the children and adults didn't dare to touch it.

An adorable little girl ran forward to give it a few hard knocks, causing the everyone to break into laughter.

The warrior monk returned to the stage where his fellow monk flicked a small saga seed at the glass. It passed through the glass and burst a balloon behind it. When the piece of glass was brought before the audience again, we saw a tiny hole in it. The glass did not shatter.

The children enjoyed watching the real Kungfu performance by the monks. After the show, many of them rushed forward to take photos with the fantastic warrior monks. :)

    1. I have watched 5 Shaolin kungfu performances including one in Henan's Shaolin Temple and I am never tired of watching them. The warrior monks are different at each performance I went to. There were a few very young children, around 7 or 8 years old who could demonstrate the kungfu moves extremely well. Totally enjoyable.

  11. I always learn something new reading your posts. I enjoyed learning of Shaolin.
It is wonderful for the children to learn these arts. The strength of body and spirit that it brings to them is so valuable.
Thank you for visiting my friend.
    Blessings dear. Catherine
