Intouchables for Societe Generale Private Banking 2nd Rendezvous With French Cinema
Top French actress Sophie Marceau will be leading a cast of French celebrities to walk the red carpet at the opening of the Societe Generale Private Banking 2nd Rendezvous with French Cinema, held in Singapore from December 5 - 9.
A total of 12 films will be screened across two venues – The Cathay as well as the Alliance Francaise de Singapour to promote the best of French cinema in Singapore and the region.
The media was invited to a screening of the Intouchables at The Cathay recently.
Societe Generale Private Banking 2nd Rendezvous With French Cinema is featuring The Intouchables (directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano), France’s official selection for the foreign language film category at next year's Academy Awards.
The film has currently grossed $355 million worldwide, receiving rave reviews for its depiction of the unusual friendship between Philippe (François Cluzet), a wealthy quadraplegic and Driss (Omar Sy), an ex-convict hired as his live-in caregiver.
Inspired by the book Le Second Souffle by Philippe Pozzo di Borgo, born of two distinguished French families. Philippe had a terrible paragliding accident which left him quadriplegic. The book revealing an astounding testimony of his new life was a big success in France before the film came out.
My partner and I enjoyed watching the film very much. The horseplay between Omar Sy and the suave François Cluzet is often funny. The dialogue was very witty, there was a lot of humour in it.
The Intouchables is a movie with a little more spring in their step than the rest, you want to watch it over and over because it's so wonderful.
Societe Generale Private Banking Rendezvous with French Cinema has become an important platform for the French film industry to access regional markets. Sophie Marceau and the delegation of actors, directors and producers will be here to display the diversity and excitement of contemporary French cinema as well as to make an impact for our cinema industry at the professional content market which will be underway at the same time.
A major component of Societe Generale Private Banking 2nd Rendezvous with French Cinema this year will be its schools outreach programme. In line with the Singapore government’s push to develop more local content, this outreach programme will have members of the French delegation conducting masterclasses with students from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and Tisch School of the Arts Asia. These masterclasses to be conducted by directors Lorraine Lévy, Carine Tardieu and Jean-Christophe Dessaint will facilitate an exchange of knowledge and skills specific to French cinema. They also present an opportunity for aspiring local filmmakers.
Local audiences will get a chance to meet and interact with the actors and directors during post-screening sessions at the public screenings at festival venues, The Cathay and the Alliance Francaise.
