Disbelief turned to anger when I read the half-hearted apology of Member of Parliament Wee Siew Kim.
His 18 year old daughter who is studying in one of Singapore's top junior college, called Mr Derek Wee "old" & "undermotivated" after he wrote in his blog that the Government should try to be more understanding of Singaporeans' employment woes.
Wee Siew Kim sided with his daughter when he said,"She wrote in a private blog and I feel that her privacy has been violated."
He further defended his daughter by saying that "her basic point is reasonable, that is, that a well-educated university graduate who works for a multinational company should not be bemoaning about the Government and get on with the challenges in life" and that "some people cannot take the brutal truth and that sort of language, so she ought to learn from it".
It is the hot topic in Singapore right now - in coffee shops, among business circles, professionals & lawyers. I was told this tonight when having dinner with some friends coming from different professions. One of them whose daughter is a friend of Shu Min, is not on speaking terms with his daughter because she sides her classmate & friend.
My friend has tried communicating with his daughter on this but she insists that Shu Min was right. Many of her classmates in RJC think like Shu Min too. And they support Shu Min.
The whole table of us was appalled. WTH! These are students who are deemed to be policymakers & future leaders of Singapore. With such elitish thoughts, what hope is there for the ordinary Singaporeans? The future of Singapore is bleak. I'm not a member of the elite, my family is going to be further marginalised & disadvantaged.

hmmm interesting, sounds reasonable enough. Cheers.
A fellow colleague attended a conference on Giftedness in which she learns that Holland students in elite school have the mindset that students in public schools are stupid and the world a better place without them.
It is obvious that Singapore is slowly moving towards this. A clear flaw in our education system.
